Lynn Swann considering run for Pa. governor
Lynn Swann considering run for Pa. governor
Thursday, December 09, 2004

Associated Press

Former Steelers wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Lynn Swann is considering running for governor as a Republican in 2006, a spokeswoman for Swann's consulting firm said.

A decision about whether to run is not imminent, the Swann Inc. spokeswoman said yesterday. Swann has been discussing the issue with his family, friends and political leaders, she said.

Robert Asher, one of Pennsylvania's national GOP committeemen, told The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News that Swann had called him seeking his support.

"With his name ID and the popularity he has, that is a heck of a start for this guy," said Montgomery County resident Asher, who has not decided on a candidate to support in 2006.

Two other Republicans -- state Senate Majority Whip Jeffrey E. Piccola and former Lt. Gov. William Scranton III -- are also eyeing prospective campaigns against Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell.

Swann spoke at the Republican National Convention on Sept. 2, and he was also co-chairman of the African-American steering committee for the Bush-Cheney campaign this year. Swann, 54, lives in the Pittsburgh suburb of Sewickley.

1. Good f***ing luck
No way that's ever gonna happen. Not with Philadelphia on Rendell's side.

9. Eagles
Rendell's been an Eagles postgame panelist for years and years now and correctly called Steelers over the Eagles a couple of weeks ago. He got a lot of good old boys' votes last time around on that basis.

3. Think he'll still fake injury or run out of bounds prematurely
whenever he's feeling pressured? Like when he had to deal with Jack Tatum or George Atkinson.

6. Interesting He Gave To Kerry in 1996
Other than Senator Heinz he's been a pretty solid Dem supporter, some repubs here and there...not bad.

8. I'm going to speculate Swanny previously gave to Kerry

because of Teresa Heinz since he was a staunch John Heinz supporter. He ran in the same social circles as Teresa in Pittsburgh area.

Still Jack Tatum must've gave him one to many shots to the head that he so staunchly supported the idiot in chief.

I was disappointed to see him out there speaking for * and introducing him at rallies.

Swann with the Chimp.
