Close ally of Knoll may switch parties
Diven considers action for a Senate bid

Wednesday, January 19, 2005
BY PETER L. DeCOURSEY
Of The Patriot-News

Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll's closest ally in the state House is considering switching parties for a state Senate bid.

Asked about the switch, State Rep. Mike Diven, D-Allegheny, a top campaign strategist and aide for Knoll in 2002, said "I can't handicap it for you, but it is something I have to consider and am considering."

Diven is interested in the Senate district that became vacant when Jack Wagner, a suburban Pittsburgh Democrat, was sworn in yesterday as auditor general.

The district has a Democratic edge, but Diven, despite long and bitter feuds with House Democratic leaders and some western Pennsylvania Democratic leaders, is well-known and represents "our best chance," said sources close to Senate President Pro Tem Robert C. Jubelirer, R-Blair.

3. The Democratic Leadership is the legislature is pathetic

They keep losing seats and are well on their way to being a permanant minority. The GOP has controlled both houses of the state legislature for ten years now.

6. she is anti-choice
and currently I have heard that she can't keep anyone on her staff because she keeps trying to make nice with the repubs...I hope the law changes so we can get rid of her when Rendell runs again.

Governors should be able to pick their own running mate.

Hell she can't even remember his name.
