Who is sending letters to Lamar Smith re: Public Broadcasting?
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 01:42 PM by melissinha
I know he is conservative schmuk... but I am stuck with him..I know he will disregard my letter but if we can bug the hell out of him... it is will be worth it...

Please do not support the proposed spending cuts for Public Broadcasting. Although I am inclined to believe that politically you will support the cuts. Let me explain my position: I frequently depend on PBS. I have often felt that it is too conservative in its reporting, other people who are conservative feel its liberal.... conclusion its too liberal for you, conservative for me... it must be balanced afterall. I think that the individuals, especially Mr. Tomlinson, are being mandated by the Administration to bring PBS in check... this is clearly a corrosion of the 4th estate and appears poised to be a propaganda machine... Please allow PBS to remain the same, in fact MORE FUNDING is needed. Maybe you can find that missing $8 billion in Iraq and allocate it to real things like unbiased reporting at PBS and restore the dignity of the Republican party.

I SOOO wanted to add this:
By the way, you might want to distance yourself from Tom DeLay cause we are so hot on his tail, come Christmas Democrats are going to be mailing Christmas Cards featuring Tommy Boy in a prison suit.

You all: I know Lamar took funds from DeLay... thats why it would be so FUNNY...

And we don't have to be stuck with Lamar Smith, Melissa. You can get in on the ground floor in supporting John Courage for CD21. He's running. We can have a good progressive Democrat that supports our values.

Ahh I hadn't come across any local numbers.... thanks a bunch!!!

THe reason I did write him was because of a followup email from Moveon regarding the petition.... This letter was a direct effort like the one for the People for the American way...

3. My Rep
Actually reads and replies to people. I told him that supporting a conservative agenda on PBS/NPR is no different than state controlled media of nazi Germany, Soviet Union, Communist China, etc. I also let him know that if he does vote for it, I would either run against him as an Independant or organize with Dems so he wouldn't re-elected. I think I'm getting through to him.

6. John Courage is that opponent!
realistic candidate, I have volunteered for him. I have been deluging Smith, I'm in CD21 too. I write him daily with a list of grievances and have had the opportunity to take him to task in person. They (the Smith office) have actually talked about giving me a staff position with him! I don't think so...
