conversation in Memorial Park
So I went running with 2 red-blooded Texan Republican men tonight... but when the conversation grazed on politics, both were backpedaling furiously to distance themselves from Bush.

Like, "yeah, we're Republicans, but THOSE guys are CRAZY." Of course they've probably conveniently realized this SINCE November. x( (Am I right in feeling that these guys would sooner run the Loop in a pink tutu than vote for a Democrat, no matter HOW messed up the Republican candidate is?)

Anyway afterwards I discussed the governor's race a little with one of the guys who's more my friend. I asked if he'd vote in the R primary, and he said, yes, probably for whomever he considered more "electable" (and doesn't have an opinion on that yet.) But he said -- laughingly, but twice -- that he'll probably vote for Kinky in the GE. So there's your Kinky factor: Republicans embarrassed with Republicans.

I do hope Kinky takes away votes from the repuke candidate and not Chris Bell.

Bravo for you CitySky for engaging the enemy or at least the confused Texas repukes.

3. I think I'm going to work petitions for Kinky after the primary ....
I certainly hope he gets on the ballot because he will take a huge hunk out of the Republican vote in Texas.

I'd rather see Chris Bell elected, but I think Texas may be a couple of elections away from putting a Dem in the governor's mansion.

All in all, Kinky would be infinitely better than Goodhair or the Tough Grandma. Kinky's views are all over the map -- but I like his motto "Leave No Teacher Behind".

4. Kinky will take a chunk out of the stupid vote.
People who vote because "He is likable".

Weve done that. Regret it.

6. Just what we need---someone else who doesn't know how to govern

The state was still able to function while Dubya was governor because Laney and Bullock understood how things work. Now they're gone, and Craddick, Dewhurst, and Goodhair don't have a clue. And neither does Kinky. "How hard could it be?" Harder than you imagine.
