Press release from Barbara Radnofsky
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 08:38 AM by cosmik debris
I sent the Radnofsky campaign an email asking for her position on various subjects of interest to me. Among other things she sent me this press release. I am not yet on board with Radnofsky, but I am certainly leaning that way. Beats the HELL out of KBH!

*Radnofsky to Hutchison:
Senator, Do Your Homework*

Houston, TX. US Senate Candidate Barbara Ann Radnofsky called on Kay
Bailey Hutchison to do her homework. The Houston, Texas mediator and
lawyer challenging Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) for her Senate seat,
analyzed Sen. Hutchison's June 23 claims concerning funding shortfalls
for veterans, "after learning that the VA is approximately $1 billion
short in 2006."

"We've researched the issue on what the American Legion and others were
explaining in terms of an even larger shortfall earlier this Spring",
said Radnofsky, 48, who is a practicing mediator and lawyer in Houston,
Texas. "I call on Sen. Hutchison to explain why she ignored vital
information explaining the crisis much earlier. Texans deserve a
senator who will do her homework."

"Sen. Hutchison is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on
Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. In a floor speech on April
12, 2005 opposing Sen. Murray's Amendment for Emergency Supplemental
Appropriations this year, she confessed to relying on the Secretary of
Veterans Affairs (Congr Record S3457, 3465 et seq), while major
organizations had already uncovered the truth in terms of needs."
Radnofsky continued, "Had the issue of funding for veterans been
presented to me as a sitting Senator, I would have vigorously done my
homework. We expect our Senator to be an independent voice for Texans,
not a rubber stamp for the administration."

"The National Commander of the American Legion (which does not take
sides in political races, nor endorse candidates, but rather is a voice
for veterans and drafted the original GI Bill), Thomas Cadmus, issued a
detailed statement on March 18, 2005 from his office in DC as follows:
'The Senate's budget resolution also ignored my funding recommendations
for FY 2006. Every major veterans' service organization that deals with
the VA health care system every day recommended more than $2 billion in
additional funding than offered by either chamber - without any
budgetary gimmicks. Those young men and women at Walter Reed and
Bethesda that I have visited did not shirk their duties and
responsibilities, nor did the veterans of our earlier wars.' "

Radnofsky continued with an explanation about her family background: "I
should disclose that my grandfather served, in the 1939-40 time period,
as Commander of his local American Legion Post. I am the daughter and
granddaughter of veterans as disclosed in the 'Family' section of my
website http://www.radnofsky.com/."

6. Barbara is good on a lot of important issues, but she's not outspoken
about the war. I don't know if it's because it's a political hot potato or if she thinks a Democrat who's outspoken against the war cannot win or what, but Barbara is very candid on almost every topic, but she's pretty quiet in the war. I think you could fairly summarize here views as best I have been able to understand them as "I'm not necessarily happy about how we got there but we're there now and let's focus on setting things right and getting home on the shortest timetable possible."

7. Not good enough
I am not a single issue voter, but until we are out of Iraq I will be a single issue contributor. Any candidate who is unwilling to acknowledge that it is wrong to lie your way into a war will not get my money. Any candidate who is unwilling to acknowledge that we are the problem not the solution in Iraq will not get my money. Any candidate that wants to prolong this disaster in Iraq will not get my money. Henceforth I will only contribute to anti-war candidates. I believe that this war was wrong, is wrong, and will always be wrong. I will not finance the candidacy of those who disagree on such a fundamental issue.

8. I'm sure Barbara doesn't disagree with you about the war or the lies that
led us into the war. I think (and I'm just guessing) that she is concerned about being labled as an anti-war candidate in a way that would detract from her stances on other issues. She isn't pro-war. Maybe Barbara will take a strong stance against the war and the lies that got us into the war (I hope so), but if she has spoken out, I haven't heard it yet (I could have missed it).

9. The big issues
That she will vote on in the Senate are (as I see it) Presidential appointments, prosecution of the war, and prosecution of the President. I'll settle for two out of three.

Any way, I just wanted to start some civil discussion. I sent her a link to this thread and I hope she has a staffer monitoring this board. Perhaps we can get some answers from the source instead of our speculation on what we hope she believes.

And please let me clarify my position. I don't expect strident anti-war proclamations, but silence is not enough. She has to take some sort of stand and I hope it is a stand for peace. To paraphrase the Preznit, "If you are not with us, you are not with us."

10. I suspect that as a Senator, she would be 3 for 3 on your issues. As a
candidate, I bet she's going worry that if she turns the election into a Bush/anti-Bush referrendum, she'd lose. She is not a DINO, and she's no friend of Bush's.

Still, I agree with you that I'd like to see her take stronger positions on Bush's war and his impeachment.

3. I'm still waiting on more info as well...
and to see if any other Dems throw their hat into the ring. I generally don't like it when people try to start their political career with a really high office and I don't have a history of how they've voted in the past on important issues to rely on. So she's gonna have to work a little harder to sell herself to me.

5. I like her
She's tough and she's smart and that's what you need to show how weak Kay Bailey is on the issues.

11. If you say she is okay then she must be. I am a member of the I hate KB
fan club. After many calls to her offices these last couple of years I started to tell her staff many times I will do everything within my power to make sure she is unseated in her next election campaign. KB needs to go home, permanently, no lobbying after.

12. Hi anarchy1999!
KBH was quoted as saying that Karl Rove spoke for her on that 9/11 quote about liberals. What a stupid position. That was pretty divisive.

Here's the latest thing she pissed me off with. She said in her form letter response to me that she voted against the bill for emergency contraceptives because of our budget deficits. Another stupid position. Women's lives are not worth saving, that's what she's saying as far as I'm concerned.

13. Kay B. has got to go! It's been my position for several years now. Her
staff are not nice people, she is not a nice person and after one of my first calls when I was thanked for my opinion and told to take a hike I promised then and there I would do everything within my power to make sure she was never re-elected to anything ever again in Texas.

I love Kay almost as much as I do DeLay.
