Profile: Vilma Luna House Dist 33 (not very flattering)
http://www.savetexasreps.com/
Vilma Luna was first elected to represent House District 33 in 1993.

Vilma Luna shocked everyone when she supported Tom DeLay’s redistricting plan. But her career of turning her back on Democratic values did not stop there.

During the last legislative session, Luna repeatedly broke with her fellow Democrats to vote with the Republicans.

Despite having her name featured as a co-sponsor of HB 1348, Luna voted against the bi-partisan measure to clarify the prohibitions in state law against the kinds of corporate contributions that have resulted in Grand Jury indictments in Austin.

Oh I remember Vilma's votes on redistricting very well. She's one of Craddick's Democrats.

1. Two words: primary challenge
It's time we run REAL Democrats, not lap dogs for Republicans.

2. When they say she voted against...
are they talking about the record vote on the motion to set as a special order, or the vote in committee?

3. It wasn't in committee because
Luna is not on the Elections committee. HB1348 was held up in Elections committee by mary denny and her minions. HB1348 would have clearly defined political action committee administrative expenses, the one area where corporate or union funds can legally be spent. A key provision would have banned such funding for attack ads against candidates in the closing days of a campaign. Here was the vote in committee on HB1348.

In Favor –
Rep. Todd Smith (R-Euless)
Rep. Jesse Jones (D-Dallas)
Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) (absent, but clearly in favor)

Opposed –
Rep. Mary Denny (R-Aubrey)
Rep. Dwayne Bohac (R-Houston)
Rep. Charles "Doc" Anderson (R-Waco)
Rep. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola)

4. Vilma is problematic, but some of the information on www.savetexasreps.com
seems to conflict with my recollection of Vilma's positions on the issues. Is all the information on www.savetexasreps.com definitely correct? There is talk that Rep. Ortiz's son will challenge her, but I personally doubt it.

5. I'd vote for Ortiz Jr. if I could
but I'm not in district 33. I've been really impressed with the young man and how he's handled the thankless job of county chair. If he decides to run I'm ready to offer labor and financial support.

6. Czolgosz of course you have to check your facts with all media
sources and that includes blogs. Nathan Wilcox that runs the site has been involved with Capital politics for a long time. But anyone can make a mistake trying to keep up with all the shenanigans at the Capital. If you think he's made a mistake and can document it, send him a note and I'm sure he will correct it if he's wrong.

7. I'm half-heartedly looking into the issues that don't jibe with my vague
recollections. If I find a clear mistake, I'll tell the guys at the website. Nothing I find will change the fact that she's a godawful excuse for a Democrat.

8. We need a primary challenger
I vote for her every time because I cannot vote Republican but she is just nominally a Dem.
