Andy Stephenson Texas Appreciation Thread
Fellow Texan DUers

I just wanted to start a thread in honor of Andy. Many of you already know that we lost a great friend and hard working activist. Andy had thousands of friends and he touched millions of lives. Let's remember him for his courage, his tireless work and his love of people. And let’s not forget Andy was a Texan. He proudly put it on his web site bio "Andy Stephenson grew up in El Paso, Texas."

We must redouble our efforts to demand verified voter paper ballots for Texas. Let's do it for Andy because it's the right thing to do.

Rest in peace Andy!

This was Andy at the "Computer Ate My Vote" press conference in Texas
in July 2004

1. Wow, thanks sonia!
I didn't realize Andy was a Texan, since I was never fortunate enough to meet him.

This is a good idea. We Texans should honor his memory well. First, by demanding a paper trail.

9. I agree
Demanding a paper trail would be the best way to honor Andy's memory.

2. Andy's family still lives in central Texas.
If you've ever heard Andy, you know he's a Texan.

I'm flying up for the memorial service. I had hoped to fly there under happier circumstances, but...

3. Andy went to Coronado High School in El Paso
They were our rivals, but I don't hold that against him.

We all miss you, Andy.

6. Andy was one of the first DUers to reply to one of my posts
and send me an IM. I'm by nature an optimistic person and I honestly thought he would get through this. I'm very sorry to hear that he's gone but glad to know that GOPisEvil will be representing us at his service.

Andy will be missed.

7. There will likely be another memorial service in Texas...
at the church Andy's family attends, but that's not definite yet. If so I'll let the other Texas DUers know where and when on this forum.

Regardless, I will find a time to put together our own Texas version of a wake so we can laugh and cry adn tell Andy stories. I'm headed to Seattle for the funeral next weekend but after I get back I'll figure the timing out for us to get together.

8. I didn't know Andy, but the love here
on this forum tells me how much all y'all cared.

I posted this on HouDems:

and this on my blog (with the permalink to the Velvet Underground at the top):

Would that we all could make half the difference on this Earth that Andy Stepehenson did.

18. I agree
The next time some conservative claims to be upset that Andy is gone, that person should be challenged to honor his legacy by supporting a paper verified trail of all votes cast on election day.
