The Texas State Democratic Party Needs You
...to contribute money. DUers it's time we came to the aid of our party. Whatever little bit you can do helps. Let's put our money where our hopes are - we need to rebuild our party and that takes money. No amount is too little.

Right now the party has an on-line campaign going on "Turn the Capitol Blue"
http://www.txdemocrats.org/

And if you don't want to do the on-line contribution, you can become a sustaining member for as little as $10/month
http://www.txdemocrats.org/getinvolved/join/index.php

If we got evey one of the TX DU members that chimed in as being present when we did the county roll call and chipped in just $10 each we could raise the $4,000 ourselves.

Just do it because your state party needs you!

State Democrats short on funds

By John Moritz
AUSTIN - The Texas Democratic Party, which has been shut out in statewide elections since 1994 and remains in the minority in both houses of the Legislature, is nearly out of money and struggling to meet its payroll, leaders confirmed Wednesday.

"We're tight. This part of the year is always lean, and it's a little tough right now," said Mike Lavigne, the state party's chief of staff.

Lavigne and other influential Democrats said the party has a long history of living hand to mouth but also said that it is having to redouble its fund-raising efforts to make sure that its near-term payroll and office expenses are met.

1. And if you live in SD 25
Zada True-Courage, our SDEC committeewoman, has suggested we add 25 cents to the contribution to show it came from SD-25.

2. Everyone should add their SD number in their contribution
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:18 PM by sonias
I like that they can track your SDs by that extra special donation.

SD25 - 25 cents
SD21 - 21 cents
SD22 - 22 cents etc

My SD's ass will kick your SD's ass!

Well actually NoPasaran and I have the same SD25.

The race is on.

3. I'm not letting this sink until we hear from the party
That the contributions are rolling in. Come on folks kick it up a notch.

Two Unemployed Democrats, the Austin store and web site that has remained pretty popular has a great new sticker out.

"The ass you save may be your own" and I think that fits right in here.

Too funny..

but the donation will be going, just as soon as hubby's paycheck gets deposited in the bank. Then I can decide just how much to send because see, I gots to support my LOCAL county org too.

6. Texas Democratic Women are doing fund-raiser
We've asked members to add 99 cents to their donations to indicate it's from TDW. We have over 1750 members, so small donations will add up. This is in addition to the money pledged by our executive committee. See the link on our website (http://www.tdw.org).

7. Way to go TexasLinda!
That's a great idea for clubs to do fundraisers as well. Pass the collection plate at your next meeting and send it in. Great idea. I think I'll suggest that to some of our clubs as well.

12. Why The Texas Democratic Party Matters
http://bor.musselmanforamerica.com/mt/archives/2005/07/why_the_texas_d.html#more
By Andrew Dobbs

There has been a lot of talk about the nature of the Texas Democratic Party, all prompted by Damon’s posting of our most recent online fundraiser. I want to start out by thanking those of you who gave to this effort—it means a lot to all of us who are working hard down here. As for anyone else, I would like to address some of your concerns.

To begin, I’m going to do something I never do. I never take credit for my work, because it isn't about me, it is about the party and the people we are fighting for. The idea behind this campaign, the graphic and the text of the pitch were all created by yours truly. That’s what I do. I've also designed stuff for some of our candidates, I keep our website up to date, I do opposition research for many of our candidates, write press releases, speeches, Op-Eds and a whole host of other things. Some campaigns can’t afford a full-time press guy, and I am happy to help them out. By the way, I’m also a full-time student and I can say that the TDP is helping put at least one kid through college.

There's a whole lot more from a first person account. Kudos to Dobbs for his blog post.
