Well, they can't blame Democrats.

The new legislative session to overhaul education funding began Thursday much as the last one ended, with state leaders claiming that a solution was within reach and opponents saying the plans on the table will hurt the state.

After failing to approve education and tax proposals before the first 30-day special session ended Wednesday, lawmakers renewed their work on those proposals with the hope that they could quickly move them through the House and Senate so negotiators from each chamber can hammer out final versions for approval.

(snip)

On the House side, GOP Speaker Tom Craddick chose to bypass the Public Education Committee, which includes six Republicans and three Democrats, and instead appointed a select committee made up of the five House Republicans who negotiated a final plan with the Senate in the closing days of the last session. The select committee reapproved that plan Thursday.

1. They'll damn well try to anyway!
Craddick is a cretin, he is a disgrace to the office he sullies.

Whatever plan we eventually are saddled with will be certain to be borne on the backs of the lower income brackets, in keeping with Texas's long tradition of regressive taxation.

The only good thing that will come from this will be our eventual opportunity to use the incompetence of the republiCons against them. I will be sure to try it out on my block walking with our Democratic candidate for District 48, next week.

Any one in Texas House District 48 is welcome to accompany Mr. Brown and me on our foray in Precinct 364 next Saturday, the 30th.
