The Texas GOP imploded yesterday
If you're not reading Glenn Smith's diaries at My DD, you're missing stuff like this:

The GOP majority in the Texas House of Representatives (yesterday) fell apart, its party discipline destroyed by the stink of corruption that permeates the Bush era in Texas and across the country.

If Texas had icebergs, this would be the tip of one. I'm not talking about Karl Rove's adulterous behavior.

I'm talking about the stinging defeat suffered by the Texas GOP on the floor of the state House (yesterday). GOP leadership, helped to election by illegal corporate contributions, watched helplessly as the Democratic minority and a few frightened Republicans voted down bills that 1) raised taxes on the middle class; 2) Cut taxes for Big Insurance and other special interests involved in the scandal; 3) Stiffed school children and teachers under the guise of education reform.

This is no small matter. It should be pointed out that in the early 1970s, a political scandal called Sharpstown surfaced just ahead of a national political scandal called Watergate. By 1976, Jimmy Carter could carry Texas.

More, including Democratic talking points and how we can take advantage, at the link.

2. There is a leadership vacuum
in this great state, thanks to President Moron and Governor Goodhair. Under the guise of family values, they have emptied the treasury, pillaged the school system, and seriously weakened the infrastructure. Obviously, this self-serving do-nothing republican congress can not make hard decisions, cannot pilot the ship of state, and can not see about the business of running a state.

11. Sounds like a responsibility vacuum
Someone in the forum yesterday pointed out that the president isn't actually stupid, per se. He's just lazy and mean.

5. So, the property owners need tax relief
Somebody needs to step up somehow and put the burden of funding schools, etc on the corporations. Us low middle class can't afford paying so much in property taxes.

Some compromise is needed.

6. Rove WISHES there were a heterosexual affair rumor about him
but the real rumor is about his affair with gay prostitute/Talon "news" reporter/white house correspondent Jeff Gannon. Did Rove and AWOL Bush have to compete for Jeffie's lovin'?

9. Jim Dunnam on Waco TV
Said it was a rebellion. People are voting for their districts instead of their party. Gotta admit, that's a revolutionary idea for them.

10. Mark Strama & Eddie Rodriguez reported pretty much the same today
Mark said it was the best fun he's had at the capitol his entire term. His second best day was when they killed the voucher bill. Both he and Eddie said that something is different about this session. They think the phone calls and letters from the constituents in the Representatives home districts are working. Everyone is calling against HB2 & HB3 and no one is calling to support them. It's making the repukes very, very nervous. It's especially bad for Craddick and Perry the two head idiots in charge.

Mark thinks that this can only go one of two ways, one the leadership sees that they are stuck and have to reach out to the Democrats for a real compromise. The Dems give a little up in property tax relief and the repukes give up only trying to protect Highland Park and give teachers a real raise and make business pay more. Or they totally keep imploding and failing and the courts shut down the schools. Boy that's going to look good huh?
