Peace Vigils for Cindy this Wednesday 8/17@ 7:30 all over country
I hope all of your are keeping up with the events on the TruthOut blog. There was some vandalism of the Arlington West (crosses) memorial last night. The person responsible has been arrested. And the local county commissioners are considering a vote on closing Prairie Chapel Road where Camp Casey is located. Cindy reports however, that thanks to some west Texas pig farmers who support Cindy, Camp Casey may get private property to use closer to bush.

Here's the report from Democracy for Texas on the Vigils happening all over the country (not just Austin). Just put in your zip code to find out where or sign up to host one yourself.

DFT SUPPORTS CINDY SHEEHAN

We've heard from so many of you who have been to Crawford or are planning to go. You’ve shared your thoughts and your photos. Thank you.

It's hard not to be moved by Cindy's story and her courage. It's even harder to understand a president who has time for bike rides and naps, but doesn’t have time to meet with a grieving mother whose son died in Iraq. But it's not the first time this administration has misplaced its priorities, is it?

This Wednesday, August 17, at 7:30 p.m. local time there will be vigils in support of Cindy Sheehan all across the country. Democracy for America is teaming with True Majority and MoveOn to organize the vigils. DFA supporters have a special interest in Cindy — she’s a regular attendee of her DFA Meetup in Sacramento.

There are a number of vigils being organized in and around Austin. The two largest in central Austin will be at the Lamar Street Pedestrian Bridge and Little Stacey Park. You can check out all of the locations at www.moveonpac.org/event/cindyvigils/. If you’re interested in hosting a vigil yourself, you can do so at www.moveonpac.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=24.

We hope you’ll join us in honoring Cindy and all those who have given their lives in Iraq.

1. Austin Vigil
I'd like to attend the Lamar street bridge vigil, but I'm not familiar with that area. Where would be a good place to park and then walk up to the bridge??

2. Hi Spacemom
That's the vigil I would go to. I know a lot of people are going to that one.

The closest parking spaces are the ones near Zachary Scott theater. (South of the river). There are some parking spaces close to the hike and bike trail and all of those are public parking. It usually gets pretty busy because a lot of people use the trail, so that may not be your best bet but it's worth a try. That intersection is at Riverside and Lamar. You can also park along the north to south streets, anywhere near that bridge. Dawson Road is a good one for example. That's the street that's just east of Taco Cabana.

Another good area is the dillo parking site which is about a block away on Toomey Road. That's the road where Schlotsky's is located and that parking is also close to the front side of Zachary Scott. That lot in is public parking for the park. Zach Scott does have some reserved spaces so make sure you park further west in that lot.
