I just got off the phone with my daughter's school and I am trying to convince them to start a drive for personal items and snack foods for the displaced people of NO. I told the Principal to call the district and get them involved. This is Spring Branch ISD.
If there is anyone in Houston who wants to call their school's district and see if they will participate, it would be wonderful. If we get a lot of the schools to do this, we can make a difference in the lives of the people who are in the Astrodome.
Any ideas or suggestions, most appreciative. Houston Texas cares about the people of NO and we will take care of them......

My daughter will go to Stratford when she is older. Small world... Thanks for calling, Stratford is known for their charitable works, I know they will be able to help.
Thanks, anyone else, any organizations, scouts, brownies, soccer, anything, let's get this done for these poor displaced people...

10. Many things are in the works |
|
Tonight's open house night at Stratford and I try to find out more.
I work at 2 Curves (I know, but the franchise owners are good people) and we will be having a clothing/supplies drive. I'm about to send out an email for a web customer announcing the same for her 2 massage spas. The had too many people show up to help at Memorial Drive Methodist Church this morning. The Red Cross is taking names of people who want to volunteer at the Dome at 713-313-5480, but you have to be persistent to get through.

4. Think about it. These people have had no water |
|
no showers or bathroom facilities. All they have eaten is MRE's. The kids need games as well. All kinds of personal and hygiene items and snacks.

Is stepping up and taking all sick and injured children from the hospitals in NO. I am so proud of Houston and it's efforts. We remember the flood of Alicia, we were literally underwater...

11. HISD schools open to the children |
|
Houston Independent School District has opened all of their schools to the children who are/have been evacuated to Houston.
I saw some clips on TV last night. It gives some of them a place to spend the days, some sense of normalacy and activities to ease them just a bit.

In another thread someone mentioned donating books for the evacuees. I called the Half Price Books corporate offices based here in Dallas. They do a lot of book drives for hospitals and other causes regularly so I have faith they will help for a disaster such as this. I had to leave a message, but the receptionist I spoke with was very receptive to the idea. It wouldn't hurt to have some other people call in. I don't know if I am allowed to post the number on the board, but if you want to call information, the Corp offices are located on Northwest Highway in Dallas.
