Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey died in Iraq, has become a symbol of this loss. By sharing her anguish so publicly, Sheehan gives us the opportunity to multiply her grief and try to imagine the unimaginable: the agony of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of Americans. But Sheehan also offers something more -- she has managed to use her platform to urge Americans forward, politically, on the Iraq war. Her call for an immediate end to the occupation has served to advance a viewpoint that hasn't been expressed by political leaders in either party or in the major media.

Cindy Sheehan and others will be in Austin on Wednesday August 31st as the vigil moves from Crawford to DC. The events begin at 5 p.m. with a march from the State Capitol to a 6 p.m. rally at Austin City Hall Plaza. This Austin event is the first stop of a military families bus tour destined for the September 24 antiwar protests in Washington, DC.
