The Austin Humane Society (AHS) has set up a hotline to help Hurricane Katrina evacuees moving to Austin find care and placement and supplies for their family pets. Evacuees dialing 512-646-PETS (7387) will be able to receive aid in placing pets in a foster home or supplies. Additionally, Austinites can sign up to volunteer for the phone bank and become foster parents or register supplies/services you are willing to provide. AHS is undertaking this effort in partnership with the City of Austin Town Lake Animal Center and the ASPCA to staff animal emergency shelters in Austin as the need arises.
