DFA Grassroots All-Star, Round 2 -Vote Now Through 9/24
The great news is that one of our own Texan candidates, John Courage running in Congressional District 21 against Lamar Smith, made the top ten cut. We know John was in second place in the last rankings we saw, so we can win this endorsement. Let me say this once again, this is not just a popularity contest, this endorsement brings in lots of money throughout the country into this race. So please Texas let's do our part to win one for our team. Lets rid CD21 of Lamar Smith. We have the power to win this race!

This vote is open to anyone. You do not have to be a DFA member, or live in CD21. And if you voted last week you have to go back and vote again.

This is an instant runoff where you will get to pick up to three candidates, but make sure you vote for John as your first choice. Voting closes on this Saturday the 24th, so please vote today.

Democracy for America is hosting an online instant run-off vote to determine which congressional candidate will receive their first national endorsement of 2006. The 10 Congressional candidates on the ballot were narrowed down from a field of 60 during an online vote last week. The candidate who wins the instant run-off vote will receive a DFA-List endorsement and a national e-mail from DFA's Chair Jim Dean.

Vote for John Courage here:

Voting closes on Saturday at 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

5. Thanks Sonia!
I think we'll be fine. My home is far enough away from the gulf and in no danger of flooding. If Rita insists on hitting us, Lisa is coming up here with her foster kitties. We have food, water, ice, batteries, candles, etc. all ready.

6. I voted for John today!
I was sorry my candidate, Scott Mortensen in MN, didn't make the first cut but I hope John makes it.

Good luck!

11. We will.
Lisa's probably coming up here tomorrow from Texas City, and we'll decide if we need to go further north on Thursday or Friday. With 7 plus kitties between us, including a pregnant one, it will be a tough call.

10. Will do. He's a great progressive candidate
While DFA put him in their list, the DCCC is supporting the anti-choice, anti-gay rights, "stay the course" Dem.:evilfrown: Scott has an uphill battle but he is just getting more fired up. www.scottymortensen.com
Take a peak and you'll see what I mean.

Now I'm off to tell my friends to vote for John.
He's doing fine. Last I checked he was in third.
You can turn that around with Texas DUers, post a diary at Kos, and use your blogs to get the word out.

12. Thanks katinmn, we got that baby going
We're working the blogs all over the place. DailyKos, MyDD, BurntOrangeReport, OffTheKuff, BrainsAndEggs, SaveTexasReps and many more. Richard Morrison who ran against Tom DeLay in '04 and was one of the Dean Dozens, just fired a message off to his lists to ask for his supporters to vote for John. We're rolling on. Just moved up to spot # 2

Like our DNC Chairman Howard Dean likes to say "We can do better than that!"

By the way I did take a look at Mortensen's positions and he reminds me of a Wellstone Democrat. I like his positions. Too bad the DCCC has to be involved in this race. Luckily John doesn't have a Democratic challenger for the primary. When John wins the primary in March then he just faces off against Lamar "the lame" Smith in Nov.

13. Wednesday morning kick
We're holding the number one spot but it will be a long week. Let's win one for Texas and slap Lamar Smith hard.

And in case you hadn't seen this memo, here's a link to a fax that Lamar "the lame" Smith meant to send to Karl Rove on immigration, but ended up in Democrat hands. Big mistake.

http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Immigration_memo_intended_for_Rove_arrives_on_Demo_0919.html
Immigration memo intended for Rove arrives on Democrat's fax
"Immigration needs to be considered in the context of: (1). Media Bias, (2). Animosity toward the president and (3) the feelings of the Republican base," Smith's memo states.

Smith goes on to suggest that "Liberals can easily and accurately be painted as opposing enforcement." His office did not return a call seeking comment.

15. Hoo Woo!! But we can't take that for granted
With Rita ready to strike, it has been very hard getting people's attention.

Texans we can plan for the future too. Please vote if you haven't already. It takes about 2 minutes.

Reach down in your mailing lists and find friends you haven't sent this to and get this out to them quickly. Anyone can vote anywhere in the US with a valid e-mail address.

This is an instant runoff ballot, where you will get to pick up to three candidates, but make sure you vote for John as your first choice. Voting closes this Saturday the 24th, so please vote today. Let's win one for Texas!
