Just hosted my first House Party. And I'm pissed!!!!
I'll never do that again.:nuke:

Tonight was a statewide "No Nonsense in November" House Party night to fight Amendment 2, the same-sex marriage ban. I wanted to reach beyond the choir and emailed invitations to 37 of my non-political friends, all gay men who have a stake in the matter. And I had a turnout of..... four. Four!!!

All I can say is all these folks better get the hell out and vote or they're going the same way all the repukes in my life have gone. And I WILL find out cuz I have access to voter records.:grr:

Anyone else losing patience with their apathetic friends? Ever since I've become a political nut in the last couple years, I find they bore me anyway.

2. Don't give up.
It takes time. If they are Repugs, it's going to be an uphill battle, anyway. And they vote against their own self-interest. If they're not, keep at them. Show them some of the films you've seen mentioned on DU.
Courage.

3. Brother, of course, you are speaking to the choir here.
So naturally we are losing patience with our apathetic friends. That's why we're here...where our non-apathetic friends are.

4. Boy, you hit that nail on the head...
I guess it's truer than I realized. I come into places like this because there isn't anyone else to talk to out there.

Once in awhile I run into someone who is interested in current events. My sister certainly is...we blab for hours. Other than that, no one wants to "get into it". *sigh*

Sorry 'bout OPs meetup. I'd be sad too. BUT keep at it. You've got a LOT of courage; and passion. Hold onto it and keep at the message...house meetups or no.

GOOD ON YA

5. Good point: Keep on trying! I have some recruits at last!

Took me over a year, but NOW they are tuned in!

A gay couple who were my customers and now are my friends. Last year they were living "high off the hog" in an expensive house they built (with my builder). They asked me to sell it for them in April and moved to a cheaper house on acreage in a small rural town instead. They are SO converted they are buying locally grown organics now and are planning to plant crops/raise poultry on their land.

P.S. One of them is a VP for GE. Get THAT!!!

6. Too many see democracy as a spectator sport
We have become a very lazy society, I think. We expect everything to be done for us and, thus, the Republicans can screw us and rob us blind and we just think they are doing us a favor.

I don't know what it will take to end these people's apathy!

7. Totally sick of it.
I'm working on the anti-Schwarzenegger proposition campaign. The voters know the score. The "activists" are all to busy. If there's no candidate and no payoff in terms of glory and personal social climbing, a lot of them just don't show up. They all say they have better things to do. It's disgusting. That's how the bad guys get power.

8. Wow.

I dunno -- I don't expect much out of my apathetic friends. I just hang with them when I want a break from politics and I try to encourage them as much as I can. I was sort of like them once, so I can't say I blame them. Life is easier when you just tune in to politics every four years....
