The DeLay anti-Earle commercials
(For those who don't know, these are typical DeLay-style big smear ads, portraying Ronnie Earle as a barking dog.)

Isn't this illegal? Shouldn't someone be charging the DeLay camp with an attempt to impede justice?

I can just imagine the outraged howls from conservatives if running televised ads in order to pollute jury pools became the norm. If I am ever in legal trouble in the future, should I call a lawyer and then a media company?

1. Someone is calling them on jury-tampering
The Public Campaign Action Fund has a press release on this very issue

http://dailydelay.blogspot.com/2005/10/special-interest-group-attempting-to.html
Washington, DC – Public Campaign Action Fund, a non-partisan watchdog group, today called on the Free Enterprise Fund to immediately stop running television ads that amount to jury tampering.

The ads, which personally attack Travis County Prosecutor Ronnie Earle for recent grand jury indictments of former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay, will be run on Fox News Channel nationally, with increased saturation in the Austin media market. It is from this area where DeLay’s jury will be selected.

David Donnelly, National Campaigns Director for Public Campaign Action Fund, said the ads are nothing more than an attempt to taint the Travis County jury pool.

Off the Kuff has a lot of the DeLay PR strategy and some blog bytes from the Quorum report on the ads here:

If you haven't seen the ad actually it's pretty funny.

My money is on our big dog Earle.

12. Welcome to DU Thom Little!
Well we're here to make sure he doesn't. DeLay is so arrogant he thinks he "is the government". It's about time someone knocked him off his self created pedestal.

2. Saw it last night.
At first, I couldn't figure out what it was. But as it went on, and realized it was pure propoganda, I became disgusted that such a commercial would be allowed on the air. This commercial is truly sick. They end it with "It's not a crime to be conservative". Perhaps not, but it is a crime to be corrupt, lying, filthy, low-life scum.

3. They have started
draping themselves in their "conservativism" like a flag.
You're right. That's no excuse. It's a ploy.

5. Welcome to DU MacSailor!
Yep that closer is pretty funny. That's right repukes, your boy DeLay was not indicted for being a conservative, he was indicted for conspiracy and money laundering. Both pretty serious crimes. But you go ahead and waste your money.

Let loose the dogs of war!

7. If they can waste money like this,
then it starts to make me wonder just how much they have managed to steal for themselves in the first place. May be more than we imagine.
