OK Austin. It's time for us to have brunch again.
What weekend this month is good for everyone?

Sundays, 10am at Curra's North has become traditional. Is that ok, or do we have new suggestions?

Oh, as I post this, a Donna Howard commercial came on the TV.

This is sort of late to plan for this coming weekend.

You do realize we're gonna get whining about how we never do anything south.

11. Oh come on- us Southies to not whine
We wine. Just kidding. Everyone who does whine, never provides an alternative. You gotta lead, you can't just complain.

Anyone who lives south and can't make the location due to transportation, please speak up. We can arrange some car pooling. We have at least two of us Southies making the arduous trek to the far north, to meet our Yankee DUers compatriots.

on edit: I'm sure I'm the above referenced whiner no doubt. The squeaky wheel theory, we had a much better (and bluer)version of the saying in the Navy.

14. I don't think you are the whiner referenced above.
Your issues are legitimate. There is one person (who knows who she is *coughSharroncough*) who is reluctant to venture north of the river (or north of downtown). So, we like giving her crap. As a north Austin-ite, I'm more than happy to venture south, if someone comes up with a location that is suitable.

15. I'm detecting a regional bias here
Is there a problem with S. Austin? I remember growing up and thinking about the only worthwhile reasons to drive north of 2222 was to get my Driver's License and eat at either The Stallion or Threadgill's. Most everything fun and interesting was either in downtown or South Austin. (Zilker, Armadillo, Barton Creek, Soap Creek, Split Rail, Continental Club, Club Foot, Huts, Book People/Grok Books, Hole in the Wall, Coop, Deep Eddy, Broken Spoke, Hamilton's Pool, Raul's, Hike and Bike Trail, etc.) N. Austin was just so much buffalo prairie.

16. No, no regional bias at all.
In fact, the original brunches were at Curra's on Oltorf. However, that place is small and it's really busy on Sundays. So, the decision was made to move to the North location which is larger. I have no trouble with going to South Austin. In fact, I'd rather live down there, but my job was up here. :)

Don't know who coined the phrase, but it is true that 78704 is not just a zip code, it's a life style. And I hope to be back there in a few more months.

20. You've been away too long Lithos
"78704: it's not just a zip code, it's a way of life"

Then my second favorite is "South Austin, we're all here, cause we're not all there"

And finally the still very valid anti-war themed "78704 Peace" courtesy of South Austin Neighbors 4 Peace.

When Maria's Taco Xpress gets their new building, I will insist we meet there for some our brunches.

17. Question about KOKE...
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I apparently don't have enough posts to start a new thread.

Is anyone that listens to KOKE radio having problems with the signal dropping out for about a second every several seconds? I live in Burnet county, northwest of Austin. This problem has been going on for months and occurs on some days and not on others. I am wondering if someone is interferring with the signal out here. Thanks.

18. Welcome to DU MacSailor!
Radio signals in Austin always drop off. I listen to KOKE in my car, but Air America KOKE 1600 has a weak signal and it does drop off quite a lot. Supposedly they were going to upgrade their transmitters, which are actually in Manor or Pflugerville. I forgot which one.

If I'm indoors I stream from the Internet.

27. Didn't we have a great time?
I really wish more people from our fair city and surrounding communities would join us. You don't have to live in Austin to join us either. We had two out of towners drop in today. We have never killed a newbie, we swear. Ok we do swear, but not at our new brunch members. We had 6 or 7 people at our brunch this morning when you count Lithos, who just joined us as we were leaving.

We had great breakfast and good company and very good conversation.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Those of you just lurking should come out and play sometime.

They have a bar inside, you could have gone back in for a second seating. GOPisEvil has a good bar set up as well. Take the opportunity next time to drink his liquor if he's buying.

Drinks on GOPisEvil next time!

35. Okay.. I keep missing this thing But I can bring free booze
if I can ever hook up with you guys.. I don't really drink and my husband drinks even less and we have a semi stocked bar( the two bottles we buy on trips to Mexico just in case we ever decide to drink)
that really need to be decimated by DUers.

So in advance I suggest we celebrate the retaking of the Baxter seat by a Dem. Let's plan a gathering for shortly after and I'll bring the booze!
Let's think South for a change. Any place we can bring our own liquor in?

37. The only place I know you can bring your own booze to is
The Salt Lick and that's pretty far South. And not acceptable for vegetarians.

I like La Feria on S. Lamar myself. You can't bring your own booze, but they make good margaritas.

Does everyone know about the Campaign Kickoff Dinner for Travis. If you don't here are the details:
Monday January 23, 2006
6:00 p.m.
UT Alumni Center
2110 San Jacinto
You need to RSVP today (January 18th)
Sustaining members of TCDP $50
General Admission $70
Yes that's steep, but keep in mind that this is a fundraiser to raise money of the coordinated campaign to help all of our candidates in Travis. Well worth the money. Plus you get to meet all the candidates who can make it. Should be a whole bunch of them

38. The Thai Restaurant across from the Manchaca branch Library
is great for Vegetarians ( They even have a veg request broth for their soups and will make most anything with tofu)and allows you to bring in Booze last i checked...
For Tex Mex..I'm a fan of Polvos, Curra's South and La Reyna (the latter has very cheap, good booze and plenty of veg fare) Hi Sonia!:hi:
