ALERT - The Swiftboating of David Harris
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 04:49 PM by merci_me
I just picked this up on TexasKos. We need to move "swiftly". This crap HAS TO STOP NOW!!!

CALL THEM ON IT! Bunch of cowards is what they are!

THE SWIFTBOATING OF DAVID HARRIS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WWW.FOLLOWMETODC.COM
Recent rumors have accused Democratic congressional candidate David Harris of being the subject of an adultery investigation conducted by the military. Blackmail and extortion threats have been turned over to the appropriate authorities and will be pursued to the fullest extent available under Federal, State and Military law. As fighting Democrats, we cannot and will not let these false allegations go unchallenged.

Follow Me to DC and David Harris categorically denies that David is the subject of any such investigation now or during his enlistment. These accusations, originally made in responses posted on the Texas-based blog annatopia.com , are patently false. These attacks are being leveled by people with personal grudges who are determined to smear Democrat David Harris, thus ensuring the re-election of corrupt Republican congressman Joe Barton.

For the past several months, supporters of the Barton campaign have been making inquiries about David to his former colleagues and friends in the military in a desperate attempt to dig up dirt on the next congressman from TX-06. Joe Barton doesn't have a record he can stand on, so his supporters have created salacious gossip and attacks. Congressman Barton has done nothing to distance himself from these attacks, and seems to prefer a campaign run from the gutter and focused on baseless attacks, instead of new ideas and improving the lives of the people of Texas. David Harris is a soldier and defender of America who has nothing but pride in his record as a citizen, soldier, and family man. Joe Barton is a corrupt Washington insider who has nothing but negative attacks to offer the voters. This reinforces our belief that Congressman Barton is running scared, and that Barton truly fears he has a legitimate challenger in "the guy in the army costume".

Michelle and David Harris would also like to acknowledge that, like many military families suffering under the stress of extended deployments of their loved ones, they have had personal issues with their marriage. Michelle and David honor their vows and commitment to each other and their children. Today their family is stronger than ever, and they are extremely disappointed that their political opponents have chosen to take the low road and make the personal political.
David and Michelle understand all the sacrifices a military family makes, and David has vowed to do everything he can to support our military families as the representative of the sixth congressional district.

The Harris family and Follow Me to DC will not follow Joe Barton into a campaign of negative attacks. Instead, Follow Me to DC will choose to focus on the real issues concerning the residents of the sixth district: rising health care and energy costs, failing schools, the war in Iraq, and homeland security.

1. While I certainly understand David's attempt

to taking the high road, please, please, please do not let these people off the hook by not addressing the negative attacks.

I'm not one to tolerate negative campaigning, however if a candidate has been attacked I believe they should address the issue. I'm not saying that the candidate has to stoop to that level of campaigning, I'm just saying defend yourself. Don't let them get away with dragging your name through the mud.

I think that was one of Sen Kerry's mistake when he was Swift Boated, he didn't defend his record when I thought that he should have. It would have given the voters an opportunity to hear his side of the story.

That is one of the Repubs tactics, attack the opponents strengths.:grr:

Good Luck David, and don't be afraid to take the fight to them by defending yourself from these thugs!

3. annatopia has been the epicenter for this attack
It started in the comments of the threads a few days ago and has significantly escalated from there:

Fighting Democrats don't take things like this lying down. They don't roll over and pretend that if you remain above the fray, people will just stop lying about you. But this official response will be the one and only time that FM2DC addresses any issues dealing with Michelle & Dave's personal life. As far as they are concerned, anything that happened in their marriage (which is still going strong) is irrellevant to the issues concerning the residents of District Six.

I would also like to disclose that I have been involved in the tracing of these smears. I ran traces on all the trolling IPs that hit my website, and the campaign was kind enough to provide me with headers from the emails they have received via their campaign website (I was curious as to whether they were coming from the same source - whaddaya know, they are!).

I would like to publicly put all these trolls on notice: I know who you are. I know where you work. I know that at least one of you was directly connected to the Barton campaign in 2004. The Harris campaign can get back to focusing on the issues, but as a grassroots supporter, I wil tell you all this right now: If you fuckers keep this up, I have no problem going public with all the information I have gathered. And I have no problem going into the gutter to defend Dave. If Barton's people want to continue to play the politics of personal destruction, then I'll be happy to engage them and discuss the allegations levelled against Barton concerning his first marriage. Do you people really want to go there? And no, this is not a threat. This is a promise.

I would rather not have to do this. I would rather continue to focus on the issues that concern our district, as I don't believe that the personal life of any candidate has anything to do with how they will serve their constituents. But if Barton's people want to go to the gutter, I have this to say: Bring it on. You know very well that you don't want to go there.

4. David has got to fight back strong
Never left them take a hit at you and not respond hard. Joe Barton and his republican weasels are cowards.

It will be important for Michelle to speak up for David and tell these scum feeders that their private family life is none of their business.

5. I say: find who started this rumor and burn his house down.
Or invite him to dinner or something like that.

Whatever gets you off.

6. I'd just like to know where David stands on the occupation of Iraq and
the Bush administration along with e-voting.

What does he believe? Should Bush and his administration be removed for violating the law of the land, for not upholding the Constitution?

What is his position on Veteran Affairs? What about Depleted Uranium? What about War Crimes? What about the Geneva Convention?

It is my understanding he is a recruiter or is in charge of ROTC at the college he is employed by? I don't know, but I'd certainly like to.

I don't give a flip about his personal life and any issues he and his family may have had or are having.

Peace,
Citrene

7. I don't want to put words in David's mouth, but I can relate a
conversation I had with him regarding Iraq. He told a few anecdotes and said that region is the cradle of civilization. In the context of that conversation he said that the US had a lot of nerve trying to tell them how to run their society with only 250 years experience compared to the thousands of years they had. He told me that he thought it was the height of hubris to think we could change their way of life and that we should leave them alone and let them get on with self governance.

He IS a veteran, how do you think he feels about veteran's affairs?
When it was revealed that White Phosphorus was used in Falluja he was livid and DU rates right up there with other chemical weapons for him.

He has called for a return to Geneva for an update to the Conventions. Warfare has changed with new and terrible weapons and the rules of war must be renewed to take into account the new realities. It's on the website, read it for yourself. http://followmetodc.com/

How disgusting! Well it is not working with me. I'm still voting for David. I have never voted for Joe and don't plan to now.

11. I still say burn down his house.
Or protest at his home in front of his neighbors. Like we did to John OQuin and Bob Perry.
