A new revolution
When the American Revolutionaries proclaimed government by the consent of the governed in 1776, they did not intend for future Americans to be ruled by autocratic executive power. Yet here in 2006, our government has been hijacked by gangsters who care not about the stirring vision of government that was willed to us by our revolutionary founders.

It is clear that the gangster Bushite machine is hell-bent to subvert the Constitution. It is also clear that we cannot depend on Washington political insiders of either party to save it. Too many of them are too invested in the established order. We the grassroots people have to do it. There is no mystery as to what each of us as individuals and all of us as community can and must do. This is an election year. We have to remove the gangsters and their allies from every office, directly and specifically. Each one of us needs to select one or more campaigns, whether of candidates or of political organizations, take grassroots ownership of the campaigns, and devote everything we can to victory. I have selected my pathway; each must select theirs.

And the gravity of the Constitutional crisis demands that we do more than win specific elections. We must also transform the political process and replace it with what the founders intended. It is up to us, the grassroots American people, to rebuild self-governing democracy the way it was meant to be: every citizen a 100% equal part owner of the government, and government serving the people.

We have to do it right this time, and dismantle the whole corrupted political culture that led us down the path to Bushite government. We have to restore democracy to its owners, the people. No more of government by glad-handing lobbyists. No more of installing into public office lying hustlers who only want to use government to enrich themselves and their cronies. No more of government by pollsters or marketing consultants. No more government of, by, and for self-serving political-corporate power elites of either party and their entourages of professional operatives. Our government does not belong to them.

Our government belongs to "We the people" who talk in straight lines, who say what we mean, who struggle through our daily routines, and who believe in our Constitution to give us a fair chance. We have the power to restore it. We do not have the luxury to indulge in cynicism, discouragement, or defeatism. We have only barely the time to fight to take it back. We have no time to waste. Our forebears fought and won a revolution to establish government by consent of the governed. We have to fight and win a revolution to restore it. Fight through our grassroots campaigns, candidates, and organizations. Fight through our voices, our pens, our keyboards, our money, and our feet. Fight all the time, fight every day. Never give up, but fight, fight, and fight some more! Fight 'em till hell freezes over, and then fight 'em on the ice.

Democratic Candidate for Texas Attorney General

6. My government, my constitution, my country
I am, one of the millions of Americans in "We the people", and I agree with you David that it is up to the people to transform this government. If there ever has been a time to fight, it's now. The level of corruption in this administration and their illegal spying on Americans, has created a constitutional crisis and we have to reclaim our government from these criminals. This is not just an opportunity to win the next election cycle, it is our civic duty to defend our country now by challenging this corrupt government.

I'll fight every day right along side of you, David.

7. Related link opinion column
I had to post a link to this column that got forwarded to me, because it falls right in line with David's call here. You can choose to live in bush' bizzaro universe or you can stand up and fight like David says.

http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/newssentinel/13609602.htm
Does Bush rule our lives from alternate universe?
Welcome to 2006/1984, where war is peace, ignorance is strength, treason is patriotic and Big Brother really is watching. After yet another flurry of stonewalling and easily debunked rationales (lies), the Bush administration finally admitted they circumvented the law and without oversight ordered the interceptions of millions of phone calls and emails. But it’s OK because their justice department approved it.

How would this sound to a judge? "Your honor, I knew my robberies were illegal but I only cased most of the homes I broke into and anyway my attorney said it’s OK, if I really needed the money to protect my family."

I have any real deal of respect for. You are speaking out for all of us.

I was moved today by Gore's speech. What are "We the People" going to do with it?

Thank you once again for you and your desire to make a difference. You are truly a leader I can stand behind very proudly and you have so many standing right behind you and beside you. Never change.

Texas, WE NEED TO "TAKE TEXAS BACK"! We have a very long history of populism that we need to own and to be very proud of. WE ARE THE PEOPLE! (Thanks again David, for saying it all so well.)

I have to quantify and qualify, there are many great Dems that are standing up and running this year. I'm biased I guess because David is standing up here at DU and talking to us. I'd like to see more of our candidates running doing the same.

I'm calling out Rick Bolanos and Gary Page along with all the rest. Where is that person running against Kay Bailey?

Once Again, most of all,

THANK YOU, DAVID VAN OS.

13. Thank you David for another great and timely message
As I was listening to Al Gore's speech Monday, I could hear some of the same heartfelt enthusiasm and determination in his voice that I have heard in yours.

Your point that "we do not have the luxury to indulge in cynicism, discouragement, or defeatism" really hits home with me after just having gone through a rough patch in my life.

I feel stronger having read your inspring words and am ready to fight on the ice if necessary.

Volunteer time is impossible right now and funds are tight but if $50 would help you spread the word, I can make that happen.

14. Yes any amount helps,
whether it's $50 or $10. Because of my travel expenses my campaign fund stays constantly just barely in the black. Very little cash on hand at any given time. As of right now, I'm out of printed literature and don't have the money for a print run. I know there are thousands who support what I'm trying to do. If every one of them contributed $10 a month my campaign fund would be flush by many times over. Thank you so much for your encouragement. Just keep fighting. History is on our side.

15. Not afraid to put it in writing
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 08:10 AM by Leander H. McNelley
I just met Mr. Van Os about five days ago. I asked if he would put in writing, and file in public record, what he plans to do as AG when elected, regarding the Trans Texas Corridor, which I beleived an unconstitutional project. Below, is the language of an affidavit he filed in three county clerk offices yesterday, with more counties to come later. He put it in writing, and filed it in public record. He sure has my vote, and I am talking about this with everyone I meet.

Finally, someone who believes in the Constitution.

Check out what he wrote below:

State of Texas
County of _______

AFFIDAVIT FOR PUBLIC RECORD

“I, David Van Os, a resident and citizen of Texas, and nominee for the office of Attorney General of the State of Texas, hereby declare to my fellow Texans and solemnly affirm the following promises:

“Article 4, Section 22 of the Texas Constitution places on the Attorney General the duty on behalf of the people to prevent and restrain any private corporation from demanding or collecting any species of toll not authorized by law.

“Therefore, if elected to serve as Attorney General of Texas, I solemnly promise that I will use every legal means available to me by that office to bring to a halt and/or invalidate the unconstitutional and illegal project known as the ‘Trans-Texas Corridor.’

“I further solemnly promise that I will use every legal means available to me by that office to oppose and/or invalidate any agreement or compact entered into by any state official of Texas with any foreign nation or state in violation of Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution.

“I further solemnly promise that I will use every legal means available to me by that office to uphold and enforce the fundamental principle that public authority should never be used for special private gain.

“I further solemnly promise that I will uphold and enforce through every legal means available to me by that office every enumerated right and liberty of the Bills of Rights of the United States and Texas Constitutions, including by way of example but not limited to, the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Ninth Amendments of the United States Constitution.

“By further way of example, I solemnly promise that I will use every legal means available to me by that office to uphold and enforce the guarantee of Article 1, Section 26 of the Texas Constitution that monopolies are contrary to the genius of free government and shall never be allowed, and that I will protect democracy and free enterprise from being devoured by the greed of runaway corporate monopolies.

“By further way of example, I solemnly promise that, in recognition of the fundamental principle that the people are the masters and government the servant, I will use every legal means available to me by that office to prevent and/or invalidate unconstitutional intrusions upon the integrity and sovereignty of the individual and private property.
“I further solemnly promise that I shall treat the office of Attorney General of Texas as exclusively the property of the people of Texas, which I shall hold in trust exclusively for the benefit of the public and never as my personal domain or tool of personal advancement or profit, for so long as the people may choose to entrust it to me.”
