Wes Clark in Corpus Christi for J. Garcia's kickoff 1/26
Eddie at The Red State:

Gen. Wesley Clark will be in Corpus Christi, TX on January 26, 2006 to announce his support for Juan Garcia, SH-32 Democratic candidate, at a formal campaign kickoff rally on January 26 at the Selena Auditorium.

Further rumor has it that the General will appear with Bob Gammage, either in Houston or Dallas, on this trip to Texas.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WESLEY CLARK TO JOIN FELLOW VETERAN JUAN GARCIA AT JAN. 26 KICK-OFF
State Rep. Candidate Says General's Backing Gives Campaign Strong Momentum
Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Corpus Christi, Texas - General Wesley Clark will join fellow veteran and state representative candidate Juan Garcia for a formal campaign kick-off rally on January 26 at the Selena Auditorium.

"I am honored to have General Clark's endorsement and strong support in my campaign to set a new direction for the families and small businesses of House District 32," Garcia said. "His biography and his record of commitment to our country speaks for itself."

During 34 years of service in the U.S. Army, Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, and led the effort to end ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. He graduated first in his class at West Point, and was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in Vietnam. A Rhodes Scholar, he serves as a frequent commentator on FOX News. Clark won the 2004 Presidential primary in Oklahoma, and is viewed by many analysts as a strong contender for the White House in 2008. Garcia served under Clark's command during Kosovo, and the two men later became friends when Garcia was selected to serve as a White House Fellow, the nation's premiere leadership development program, whose alumni include Clark, Colin Powell and Henry Cisneros.

The rally is scheduled to be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 in the Selena Auditorium. The event will be followed by a fundraising reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Garcia, a second generation naval aviator who served in the Persian Gulf, received his "Wings of Gold" at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. Garcia graduated with honors from UCLA, earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, and received a masters in public policy from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

As a top aide to the deputy commander-in-chief of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe, Garcia served in Operation Allied Force in Kosovo. In 1999, he was one of 16 Americans selected to serve as a White House Fellow, and served as a special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Education.

A practicing lawyer, Garcia continues to serve as an instructor pilot in the Naval Reserve, has chaired Citizens For Educational Excellence, and serves on the board of governors for Leadership Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Barrios Association, and the Surfrider Environmental Group.

Clark has inspired many Democrats to step up to the plate to take the state back.

The list of Clarkies in office or running for office in Texas is long, but I LOVE David Harris.

I met him at the Clark Caucus at the state convention last summer. Articulate, committed and a fighter, he has a special place in my heart.

8. I am going to Corpus Christi
If you can go, you really should. It is not very often that the Coastal Bend gets two rock stars in one place. These are the kind of candidates that can change the political landscape for good.

13. Free WiFi!
WiFi wants to be free, and it is for now in Corpus Christi.

The Red State gives us one more reason to go to Corpus Christi if you can. I can't make it. :-(

http://theredstate.typepad.com/texas/2006/01/wifi_city_by_th.html
WiFi City By The Sea
I have been covering Juan Garcia's race for HD 32 and I found out something really great about Corpus Christi. The Sparkling City by the Sea has a citywide cellular WiFi network for free (for now). What this means is that you can be anywhere in the city and get online.

These are the kind of city initiatives that all cities should have. Municipal owned broadband brings in tourist dollars, makes sure technologies don't pass by communities and promotes the local economy. Save MuniWifi had a bit of the CC story back in August:

http://savemuniwireless.org/blog/000980.html
Corpus Christi joins the Digital Communities
The 281,000 citizens of Corpus Christi will be able to access many city services online, and the city expects benefits in the areas of education, economic vitality and lower crime rates. Approximately 70 percent of the city's 3,100 employees work in the field and will benefit from dozens of planned mobile solutions. These advantages will also extend to the many employees of county, port authority, state and federal departments who work in the community.

That MoFo SBC and that ass licking Phil King who tried to bill municipal broadband both are bastards. Eddie, make sure Juan Garica is up to defending the next round of telecommunications bills Phil King will carry for SBC. Phih King is a corrupt rat bastard!

14. Big kick -- and note the time changes
The luncheon with Clark and Gammage and the big money donors at the Hotel Derek begins at 11:30. A reception for the smaller donors is at 1 p.m. A (free) rally with both men and also Hubert Vo takes place at the War Veterans' Memorial, 11360 Bellaire Blvd (between Wilcrest and Kirkwood) beginning at 2:30 and then it's off to Corpus for the General's rally with Garcia.

I'll make the rally at the War Memorial, and I'd like to see a recap and maybe pics from anyone else who attends the other events.
