Alvarado's check bounces; won't be on ballot
A Fort Worth man, the only Hispanic person to declare for governor, was bounced from the ballot late Thursday after his check to the Texas Democratic Party for the $3,750 filing fee bounced.

The name of Felix Alvarado, a middle school administrator, will not appear on the March 7 party primary ballot, said Charles Soechting, the party's state chairman.

<snip>

Thursday evening, Alvarado, 63, confirmed submitting his check for the filing fee without sufficient funds available.

"I take full responsibility for that. That's my mea culpa. I overplayed my hand," he said. "I'm disappointed."

2. Well I'm not going to dump on him
That fee is very expensive and he was running from a desire to do a good thing. I think he actually had announced publicly, before Chris Bell even did. I thought he had actually collected signatures in lieu of the filing fee. He's not a bad person. We don't know what promises for money people may have made to him.

I wish him well in his life and hope he still stays involved with the party.

Sonia

5. Ouch!
Tough break for Alvarado.

The moral of the story? Next time, use a money order. I don't think they ever bounce.
