Who from TX is caught in Abramoff scandal? Sessions, Culberson, Brady?
From D Magazine's Frontburner blog. According to them, one key focus of the Abramoff investigation is a letter that Tom DeLay wrote to Ashcroft asking him to close a casino. Who else signed the letter? Sessions, Culberson, and Brady.

PETE SESSIONS' ABRAMOFF PROBLEM

A FrontBurnervian points to an AP story about a December 11, 2001, letter from Tom DeLay to then-AG John Ashcroft that is now the focus of the investigation into bribery on Capital Hill. Dallas Republican Pete Sessions signed the letter. Here are the relevant paragraphs:

Sessions' political action committee received $6,500 from Abramoff's tribal clients within three months after Sessions signed the letter. A spokeswoman for Sessions said he considers gambling a state issue. She said the tribe was circumventing state law and that Sessions signed the letter in defense of Texas laws.

Ashcroft never took action on the request.

The Texas casino was closed the following year by a federal court ruling in a 1999 lawsuit filed by the state's attorney general, John Cornyn, now a U.S. senator.

1. I'm going to be bad and just assume...
...that if you are an elected Republican from Texas, whose name is not Ron Paul, you are tied to Abramoff and his money.

Frost links Sessions trip to sullied lobbyists

Lawmaker's aide calls ex-foe's claims about Malaysia 'sour grapes'

08:04 PM CST on Tuesday, January 17, 2006

By TODD J. GILLMAN / The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON – Hoping to entangle Dallas Rep. Pete Sessions in the ongoing lobbying scandal, a one-time Democratic foe accused him Tuesday of developing a suspicious interest in Malaysia after a nine-day trip arranged by disgraced lobbyists Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon.

Both lobbyists have pleaded guilty to bribery and fraud charges. Their links to the Malaysia trip in early 2002 aren't entirely clear, and a Sessions aide called the allegation a baseless smear from Martin Frost, the Democratic congressman from Dallas whom he unseated in 2004.

Matt Angle, a longtime Frost adviser, raised the issue Tuesday, calling the trip evidence of Mr. Sessions' ties with the lobbyists, who reportedly worked for Malaysian interests and set up the trip.

"Sessions, prior to this trip, had shown no interest in Malaysia," said Mr. Angle, who runs the Lone Star Project, a spinoff of Mr. Frost's former political action committee. "If you take a look at what Sessions has done, it would be logical that he would be one of the members the federal investigators would be taking a look at."

10. Randy Neugebauer:
Abramoff contributed $5,000.00 plus $5,000.00 Plus $5,000.00 on three separate dates to one of his PACS, Neugebauer got $15,000.00 from that PAC and refuses to return it. In addition, it seems like there was this other PAC to elect a Yankee named Mike Ferguson or some such that got a bunch of money contributed to it from Texas industries, and then turned around and sent a bunch of that money to Neugebauer, courtesy of Tom Delay.

Neugebauer's voting record is 94% identical to that of Tom Delay.
