i am going to a dinner, round table talk with a woman running for state rep. so funny how this happened. wow. anyway she is on the school board for 14 years and has just had it. she is running repug. when she called to ask us to dinner i told her i was so pissed at her, not that i can tell her why, because this is a small town, and everyone knows everyone. she asks, is this Mrs. XXXX. i said, see see you know who i am
i get a call today, friend/client of husband gave her our name. so sure enough i pissed someone off. hubby told them, well, wife a democrat. not good for republicans to call our house.
anyway, they assured us, mostly democrats going, and she has to run repug cause of the area. they are brainstorming. and need to get caught up locally and state politics. i know national. but tonight is going to be state. any help would be appreciated

Let's see the court has orded Texas to fix the way that they are funding the schools and Texas is having a real problem doing it. Governor ordered two special sessions last time and it did not get done. Bunch of know-nothings down in Austin got together and just fought about stupid shit. The Texas tax code is all screwed up-- it's just a patchwork-- means that schools are largely funded through property taxes by local ISDs which means that they come out VERY HIGH for most people.
Try doing a search on "School finance" in this forum. I am sure that people have posted various articles about it.
Other hot topics to look for: "Trans Texas Corridor."
Clean air is also a very important issue in my area, not sure where you are.

2. well i heard the schools were given 7 million on a condition that |
|
they spent 4 million on something particular the current rep wants. this is why the woman decided to jump in. i also heard that they are looking at paying teacher bonus for tak test, tying wage in test scores which i dont like. of course the lack of funds and high property tax is big. went thru the forum and saw no hot issues. i will just go and listen. see what they are looking at. thanks crispin

3. Add insurance on to that also |
|
In 2002 Perry and company made it an emergency issue. After they were done, our rates had doubled, our coverage was cut, and we had higher deductibles.
Go figure.
