TX: Howard Wins Special Election For House Post (D pickup!)
:bounce: :woohoo: :bounce:

Democrat Donna Howard has won election to the Texas House today to serve the remainder of Republican Todd Baxter's term.

Baxter resigned November 1. He became a lobbyist for the Texas Cable and Telecommunications Association.

After two elections in the last month, voters in west Austin and western Travis County are making a big change in the State Legislature.

House District 48 is switching parties and sending a Democrat to the State House for the first time since the district was re-drawn in 2001.

3. Now why can't we get some US House candidates to win?
I've only been seeing this news about the Dems picking up in State legislatures. What about the US House where a majority means a world of difference? You guys think Busby has a chance in Duke's district?

8. Just Imagine The Next Census With Democrat Majorities
Just imagine when it's time to redistrict congressional districts here in Texas, with Democratic majorities in both houses of the State Legislature, and far less willingness to coddle Republicans than back back when Ann was Governor...

11. Lamar is worthless
Until the redistricting, I had Doggett. I look forward to seeing him pulled under as DeLay founders. Peas in a pod. Lamar is not real popular in Austin.

4. Love Texas politics
Things can really flip, its about time. Last time the state went from dem to repub was in 1994. People are getting really sick of the lack of education and property taxes. We have ridiculous taxes in Collin County.

5. An excellent barometer of things to come, I think.
If Texas can vote in Dems, I think Mehlman is probably having a doubleshot of pepto-bismol tonight.

6. Think this will make a major talking point on shill, insanity, lush or
tweety? You cane be sure it would if it went the other way.
There's a hefty segment of American society that are band wagon types. We need to get this out there. We held Virginia and New Jersey. We took this House race. We need to talk it up around the office.

12. This is very big, because that area of Travis county...
that borders Williamson county is big moron* country. I remember during the national election, having to drive through that area with my Kerry bumper sticker on my car and the threats, dirty looks, people giving me the finger, etc, that happened.
there was also a corner that apparently had a political sign war going on. It was covered in the local repuke rag the statesman, about how people were putting more and more signs up and people tearing them down every night. They thought this was funny because the Kerry folks were complaining and nothing was being done about it.

Where will he go once the lobbying trough dries up?
