DeLay campaign lashes out at a primary foe
Campbell called an 'outsider,' but an aide says he's a 'citizen politician'

U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, forced onto the political defensive by ethical and legal charges, went on the offensive Tuesday, claiming one of his Republican primary opponents has overstated his GOP credentials.

DeLay's campaign said challenger Tom Campbell, a lawyer, has not been active in local party politics and has not voted regularly in Republican primaries.

"Every day he proves he's nothing more than an outsider who isn't concerned with conservative issues or fighting for the priorities of Texas taxpayers," DeLay campaign manager Chris Homan said of Campbell.

Campbell's campaign countered that no pure GOP insider would dare challenge the powerful DeLay, even if he has been weakened by a Travis County indictment relating to campaign finance and a federal investigation into his relationship with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

"The fact is that Tom Campbell is like you and me. He is not a career politician like Tom DeLay. He is a citizen politician," said Michael Stanley, Campbell's campaign chairman. "Tom Campbell calls on Tom DeLay to get beyond the negative, immaterial distractions and get back to the real issues that are important to the people of the district."

1. Never heard of him,
but anyone that takes a swing at Delay is ok in my book. No matter what party they belong to!

5. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
We want Tom DeLay to win the Republican primary so we can BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM IN THE FALL! As we will almost certainly do, 'cause he's a wounded quail if I ever saw one. (heh)

8. True, but...
...it would be soooo funny to see him crawling back to Congress, disgraced and defeated by his own team! We'd probably still win, because I bet DeLay would do something to undermine the Republican, just out of sheer spite.

6. I agree with cripsini on this one, we need DeLay to win
We already know we can beat DeLay. He has big ass baggage, plus he motivates our voters and independents to vote for Lampson.

DeLay must win the republican primary - we need the bugman. Only so we can squash him in Nov.

10. Sweetie, we're not asking you to vote for him
Let the repukes in the district vote for him in their primary. That's what we mean. If we face the "right" repuke opponent in November, Lampson wins. If DeLay loses the primary to another repuke, then the district which already leans republican, has better repuke candidate to vote for. Better than DeLay I mean, who is rotting, putrid pond scum.

Hate him or despise him, we need to have DeLay win the repuke primary. Lampson can definitely win, if DeLay is their candidate.
