Bell returns to politics with statewide run for governor
February 19, 2006

HOUSTON Former Congressman Chris Bell likes to say that he's achieved the Triple Crown of disreputable professions -- reporter, lawyer and politician. The 46-year-old Democratic candidate for governor from Houston is trying to hang on to the final part of that trio with the same approach he used in his first two careers...

Bell is a former T-V and radio reporter, first in Amarillo -- then in Houston -- who went on to get a law degree. He was elected to the U-S House in 2002. Bell in 2004 filed the first ethics complaint against Congressman Tom DeLay.The Republican from Sugar Land has since been charged with money laundering in Texas and is embroiled in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal...

1. I recognize his name from radio, but don't remember much
about him. If he's already had run-ins with DeLay, he may stand a good chance at winning the Governorship. I think, even Texans are disgusted with the performance of the Pubs, locally & Nationally!

I don't live in Tx anymore, but I'd like to see it go back to what it was when Ann Richards was Governor! Good luck to Bell!

3. There's a repub running against Delay also. Got a feeling that as
repub as the 22nd district is, Delay may be out, but a repub will take his place. Still, glad to see Dems in the race and hope they pull it off!

4. What is Perry's popularity like these days?
Does a Democrat stand any chance at all?
