2. Come one, come all - stay for the fireworks
As Smarty Pants Liberal posted to another thread, this is the same day the SDEC meets to decide the interim State Party Chair. It should be a really exciting day.

And I would encourage all of you not already members of the PPC to join. We have no annual dues. No state party caucus can charge dues. There is a membership forum you can download and mail in to join from this page:

4. Correction and additional information
Due to the SDEC meeting that day in Austin, the annual meeting for the PPC has been moved to 5-7 p.m. There will be a wine and cheese reception at the event. Do try to be early if you can.

The other information is that The Texas Observer will be doing a book signing event the night before the PPC meeting on Friday the 21st. If you haven't bought your book and live nearby, this would be a good event to buy your book. It helps the local bookstores get credit for books sold, and it gets reported to the New York Time's best seller list. I do not have the time or location of the TX Observer book signing event yet.

If you can't make it on Friday, there will be books and a book signing at the PPC meeting as well.

9. Kicking it for fun
For the hell of it and cause it feels good dammit. BAR won and that makes me happy!

I've got brunch plans, but maybe if you're all good we could grow the pie higher. Rumor is that Sirota is staying over for Sunday brunch with some people of PPC. If we all help setup and break down on Saturday you could have pie with us.

14. Kick for Saturday
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 10:25 AM by PDittie
Turns out David S. won't be available for a social function. But he's still woth seeing, and especially at no charge.

As an added bonus, you get to meet me, WHD, sonias, VelmaD, DVO, and who knows how many other cool DUers.

edit: Oh Yeah, Smarty Pants Liberal. She'll be there.

15. For those of you thinking about going to this
Not only is there no charge for the event but you might get to go to dinner after it with me, Mrs. Dittie, Sonia S, Velma D, WestHoustonDem, Lisa0825, Mr. and Mrs. Smarty Pants Liberal, David and Rachel Van Os and God knows who else.

Except for me and DVO and Mr. SPL, they's all women. And several of them are single.

And I'm sure we'll be enjoying the live music scene on Sixth following that. :toast:

You have better plans on Saturday? Doubt it...

17. SPL's momma is coming too
Yeah, that's right - Momma. That's what we call 'em in Texas and for the rest of you her name is Jimmie Jean. If that's not Texan enough she grew up in Cotulla and marched bowlegged across the football field at half time in chaps and boots playing "I'm An Old Cow Hand". The dirty cheerleaders wore custom made boots with the their private family brands. Their skirts were much shorter than Luther Stark HS on the TX/LA border where my daddy was a cheerleader - no he didn't wear a skirt but he was silly enough to do it. Ever tried to high kick in cowboy boots? Her sister Shirley Mae might join us too. Shirley Mae worked her way through college swimming with Ralph the Swimming Pig!

18. Looking forward to meeting Momma
I remember Ralph the swimming pig.

I saw David, and Molly Ivins, Robert Bryce and Craig McDonald at the TX Observer book signing tonight. My beloved Congressman in exile Lloyd Doggett introduced the panel. It was packed. Great crowd, great panel discussion. You are really going to love Sirota - he's a smart man.

20. Yes it is and F#$% if she's not feeling well
That's a joke, anyone that knows Momma or about her knows that word is worse than Republican in her book.

She's running a fever:( and has asked me to bring her a Chile Relleno from Matt's Famous El Rancho, LBJ style. Sorry you won't get to meet her.

16. Kicking it for tonight's TX Observer book signing 4/21
This will be the first tour stop for Sirota's book tonight. The event is not free but $10 is a suggested donation. I've never seen The Observer turn anyone away for lack of funds. If you got some money to give to them great, if not come out anyway.

http://www.texasobserver.org/sirota_info.asp

And as an added bonus, a web exclusive interview with David Sirota by The Observer:
TX Observer article
A Conversation with David Sirota
by Dave Mann

Writer and pundit David Sirota is an avowed progressive populist. He has served as press secretary for U.S. Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and was spokesman for Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee. In 2004, he helped Brian Schweitzer become Montana’s first Democratic governor in 16 years. In early 2005, he left Capitol Hill permanently for Helena, Montana, where he regularly contributes to The Nation, The American Prospect, and In These Times, among other publications. Sirota will visit Austin on Friday, April 21, for a roundtable discussion on corporate influence in politics and to sign advance copies of his soon-to-be released book, Hostile Takeover: How Big Money & Corruption Conquered our Government and How We Can Take it Back. The Observer recently spoke with Sirota by phone. Here are excerpts from that conversation.
