TX Precinct Chairs, let's swap ideas on growing our precincts! |
|
I'm still waiting for the actual swearing-in ceremony here in Dallas County, but I want to make sure the precinct I answer to stays blue for the 2006 elections - and I know you want the same for yours.
We've still got a wait until the State Convention in June, so I'm trying to keep my local "Triple D's" energized and in touch by just dropping them a group e-mail every once in a while. I just sent them a ready-to-print digital photo of Senator John Edwards for their own picture books in case they want one. This is about reinforcing the base to prevent further defections to Kinky or anyone else - "the Kinkster" could possibly inflict some heavy damage on our precinct if we're not careful.
I want to organize a Sunday get-together at a restaurant in our precinct - I've got a Chinese buffet already picked out for the occasion, so all I have to do is set a date, which I'm postponing because of health issues with some of the 3D's.
What are your ideas for your precincts? Let's share.

1. I'm not a precinct chair, but I'll tell you what we do in ours |
|
I live in a VERY Republican precinct, but I am involved in my precinct. I have terrific precinct co-chairs. They are WONDERFUL. They pull together the ones of us that are active and want to get together. So, we meet at one of their houses on an every three to four week basis on a Sunday afternoon. We go through the list of dem voters in our precinct and split up names for calling, writing letters, etc. We'll get information to dem voters in our precinct about upcoming elections, info about how to get involved in the party, how to get yard signs, bumpers stickers, how to contact us, about our meetings, etc.
We get information at these meetings about activties in our county, at our local democratic club, issues, insider info, etc. It's really fun for us, especially because we are in the middle of so many Republicans. There is so much to do right now and we have decided our focus is to work with the Nick Lampson campaign.
Hope this helps! I think our main thing is that we meet frequently and we keep in touch and that we keep busy doing actual work that will help a campaign!

2. Muse, I should know this.. |

..Are you in the Fort Bend County part of District 22? I know there are a number of 22-ers here (myself included - I'm on John Coby's end). Just wondering...

3. VERY Republican Precinct??? |
|
Muse - Just for fun I looked up some info on your precinct. In 2004 DeLay got 796 and Morrison got 514. I wouldn't call that heavily Republican. It's funny how most Sugar Land Democrats I know THINK they live in a heavily Republican precinct just because everyone drives huge SUVs with yellow ribbon magnets on them. In reality, the Democrats are there, they just need some prodding to come out of hiding.
And you're right, you do have great co-chairs in your precinct. With you and Geri at the helm, I expect Lampson to carry your precinct.
Oh, and if you can believe it, this is my first post ever to DU.

I love the data! My goodness, my neighbors scare me to death and look how they are really voting! I think my part of the neighborhood are the 796-ers though. That's fine. I'll be more positive about the rest of the precinct. :)
You've seen my huge SUV, right? No yellow ribbon magnets, just the Lampson and Bell bumper stickers!
Welcome to DU!!
I may have to actually block walk my precinct without fear in my heart. (and voice)

7. Don't wait, start now! |

Hey, derby, I don't have your email do I? PM me your email and I will give you the sample Precinct Plan that one of our chairs in North Dallas did. It rocks! Anyone else who wants it, email me too! I think it's important to take an hour or two to sit down and write out your Precinct Plan because if you fail to plan, you should plan to fail! I crack me up sometimes, heh.

Hi Derby and Muse!
I'll reply to this thread with some good ideas a little later. I just got access to the VAN (the state party's new online voter file system), and I'm having fun playing with it!

10. Shane Sklar's campaign manager told me a lot about that |
|
It sounds VERY cool! You will have to show it off to me at headquarters soon.

I'm a newby, so advice is greatly appreciated. Been working my precinct for several years, but as a grassroots activist. Now I'll be wearing a different hat.
