Your tax dollars at work: Bill gives credit to Perry for school finance.
Just when you think the republican party could not possibly sink to a new low, a bill passed in the house would require a political appointee to send a notice to all homeowners telling them about the cut in thier school taxes, giving credit to the leadership-less Perry.

Fighting back Democratic opposition, House Republicans approved a provision that will require Roger Williams to send a notice to taxpayers next October informing them how much they can expect their property taxes to be cut.

Roger who?

Roger Williams. He is the Texas secretary of state, the head of an office that has absolutely nothing to do with cutting property taxes.

But more importantly for Republicans, he is the governor's top appointee and would be expected to draft a notice giving Perry glowing credit — only a few weeks before Election Day — for coming to Texans' rescue with a tax cut of "historic," if not exactly colossal, proportions.

1. I'm extremely irritated about this
The huge fuss about this was last Monday. First Senfronia Thompson, D-Houston, threw a fit about the SOS being the one to send out the notices. Then, Ana Hernandez, D-Houston, tried to get an amendement passed (narrowly failed) to get the notice sent to tax payers by Strayhorn, who would be the logical person to send them out.

Our candidates, elected officials, bloggers, etc. need to keep getting the word out that this tax "reform" doesn't mean much:

1. it's not education reform
2. our home appraisals are going up and we aren't going to see much in the way of tax relief
3.Also school districts can start working their way up to a higher tax rate again - back up to the maximum. And, not all school districts will go down to the minimum that will be "advertised" by Perry. Some taxes that are already imposed by school districts are excluded from the tax decrease.
