Some of you may know LaWanda Shelton of Texas City. Longtime Democrat, sweet lady, and spunky activist. I'd once heard someone nearby talking about a "nice, grandmotherly lady" they saw holding a not-so-nice sign.
“Can I ask that woman why she has a sign that says Bush is the Anti-Christ?” one student asked his teacher. She shook her head.
Across the street, LaWanda Shelton, 61, held up that sign while resting her legs in an army green beach chair. A cane lay across her lap.
“If you just say this, you don’t have to say anything else,” she said, explaining the sign. “That’s how I feel about Bush.”I think she liked the attention that sign drew.
LaWanda was the sister of Johnny Shelton, and I met them both through the Dean campaign. Johnny is very active in our area, and sends out regular Action Alerts for Galveston County events, as well as drumming up support for every parade and rally that happens down this way.
Below are pictures Johnny sent out with the notice of his sister's passing.
Please keep Johnny in your thoughts at this time.
