"BIg Buy" premeire 5/19 @ Houston's Angelika
For those of who can't get down to Clear Lake to see all our Democratic candidates this Friday...

On Friday May 19, Houston will be the location for the world premiere of a new documentary, The Big Buy: Tom Delay's Stolen Congress, starring the ex-House Majority Leader and a cast of Texans who stood up to DeLay's assault against democracy. People For the American Way is co-hosting the event and we'd like to invite you to join us there. We think you'll agree that such a film should premiere in DeLay's backyard rather than in Hollywood.

The premeire is being hosted by Chris Bell, Charlotte Coffelt of Houston ROADWomen, Rep. Garnet Coleman, Rep. Jim Dunnam, Senator Rodney Ellis, Common Cause Texas, Deece Eckstein of People For the American Way, Jim Hightower, Molly Ivins, Craig McDonald of Texans for Public Justice, Glenn Smith of Drive Democracy, Tom "Smitty" Smith of Public Citizen, and TexPIRG.

Texas filmmakers Mark Birnbaum and Jim Schermbeck directed The Big Buy, and it is being distributed by Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films, which pioneered the grassroots marketing of films with the Wal-Mart documentary, The High Cost of Low Price. To view a trailer of The Big Buy and to reserve your seats for the premiere (at Houston's Angelika Theater on May 19), go to http://www.tomdelaymovie.com/houston .

All proceeds will benefit Texans for Public Justice and Drive Democracy, two Texas non-profits that are actively fighting for democratic reform.

What: Premiere of The Big Buy: Tom Delay's Stolen Congress

Where: Angelika Film Center, 510 Texas Avenue (at the corner of Smith), Houston, TX 77002, 713-225-1470

When: Friday, May 19th, 7:00 p.m.

1. Glenn Smith writes:
Because of your overwhelming interest and support, the 7 p.m. world premiere of The Big Buy: Tom DeLay's Stolen Congress, has sold out. We've added a 9 p.m. screening, and it, too, will be followed by a conversation with filmakers Mark Birnbaum and Jim Schermbeck. So if you haven't already bought tickets, come join us at the 9 p.m. screening.

Hello Brave New Texans!

"The Big Buy: Tom DeLay's Stolen Congress" opens tomorrow (5/19) at the Angelika in both Dallas and Houston and will continue at least until Thursday depending on turn out. So turn out! This film is about Texas, made by Texans, and for Texans, so you get the first opportunity to see the film.

Angelika, Houston: 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm*, 9pm*

Angelika, Dallas: 3:30pm, 5:10pm, 7:00pm, 9:20pm

* The 7pm and 9pm screenings tomorrow night in Houston are special world premiere screening/fundraisers for Texans for Public Justice, and Drive Democracy. Mark and Jim will be there along with a slew of other folks. The 7pm is already sold out, but if you want tickets for the 9pm, you can get them here:

Demand from theaters for the film has been very high, so we're booking theaters all over the country as we speak.

To our many friends in Austin: At this point, we feel its best if we don't have a theatrical run in town because of the ongoing legal proceedings.

Jim Gilliam
producer, Brave New Films

P.S. For everyone who pre-ordered the DVDs... thank you! We just started shipping out your pre-orders today in advance of the Tuesday release. And we'll be encouraging you to host your own screenings soon!

Luckily I pre-ordered a DVD so at least I can see the film too.

Sonia
