Lloyd Bentsen has passed away
Lloyd Bentsen, a courtly Texan who represented the state in Congress for 28 years and served as President Clinton's first treasury secretary, died Tuesday morning, his family said. He was 85.

Bentsen, also the Democratic 1988 vice presidential nominee, died at his home in Houston

1. That is so sad.
He was such a great man and of course will always be remembered for the famous line in the VP debates.

My part of Texas. He was a good man.

Rest in peace Senator Bentsen. Keep an eye on us if you can.

8. DG, I'm from Mission too
We shared him with the whole Valley though. Bentsen Road.

I think you'll like this tribute from Richard Raymond. I didn't even know this about Raymond and Bentsen. Raymond was once Bentsen's special assistant. It's a very nice audio commentary.

9. I grew up in McAllen
(GO BULLDOGS!) but I dated a football player from Mission. :)

In addition to Bentsen Road, there's also Bentsen State Park, where I spent many weekends as a Girl Scout.

Thanks for the link!

12. I was born in McAllen
Though I remember nothing of it. My parents moved soon after. They were living in Mission but had to go to McAllen to birth babies. I'm proud to have that small connection with Sen. Bentsen.

13. McAllen had the hospital
I'm not sure Mission had one at the time. Could have been worse...you could have been born in Edinburg where the other hospital was! j/k :P

14. Hope My Late Grandfather and Sen. Bentsen Are Getting Re-acquainted

My grandfather was active for most of his life in Bexar County Democratic politics. He knew all the prominent South Texas Demos: Lloyd Bentsen, John Connolly, Henry B. Gonzalez, etc.

There's no replacing special people like Bentsen and my grandfather. The best we can do is keep fighting for the policies they believed in.
