Report on our Response to DeLay event last night in Sugar Land
Fun times! 75-100 people crowded on the patio at Beck's Prime. It was great to see some of the people from TX DU there - West Houston Dem, johncoby, PDittie (and Mrs. PDittie, who I LOVE), merci_me (haircut was cute) - am I forgetting anyone?

Nick Lampson was there and David Van Os made a surprise visit. All of our Fort Bend Democratic candidates were there and I was thrilled that Sherrie Matula, running for HD-129 was there as well. She is running out on the Pasadena-Clear Lake side of TX-22, but it was neat to see how the Fort Bend teachers in the crowd gravitated towards her and kept her occupied with a lively discussion about education issues.

I blogged about the event with photos, so go check that out:

There were some Republican spies inside the restaurant looking out at us. Hilarious. They looked all grumpy while we were having a fabulous time!

1. Yeah muse, great report with pictures too
Wonderful of DVO and Matula to drop in too.

I just found the Houston Chronicle editorial on Sparks' ruling
Houston Chron editorial 7/6
On the ballot
Party shouldn't be allowed to replace DeLay just because he found himself down in the polls.

Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

A FEDERAL judge's ruling that former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay's name must remain on the general election ballot hung on what might be called a technicality: Was there any proof that DeLay would not live in Texas on Nov. 7, Election Day?

The court concluded that there was no such evidence. The U.S. Constitution, therefore, dictates that DeLay's eligibility to run for Congress as the Republican nominee in District 22 can be determined only on Election Day, long after the ballot names have been determined.

The judge's ruling is a victory for Democrats and their nominee, former U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson. Barring a reversal of U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Lampson should have little trouble defeating a Republican candidate who resigned his seat in Congress and declared himself to be ineligible for re-election and a burden on his party.

I love that. I hope that means they will be endorsing Lampson over "cut and run coward" DeLay.

Sonia

2. I'm doing a whole post on Matula
sometime this weekend when I get a minute. She's terrific. I have a good picture of her at the event that I'll put on that post.

I hadn't even thought ahead to a Chronicle endorsement. But, you are right, I feel sure they would endorse Nick over DeLay. The Chron has a lot of work to do with me to get me past their 04 endorsement of Bush, though. This editorial helps.

3. Meanwhile, here in Dallas, ginbarn and I celebrated at Ojeda's
Actually, it was the same Ojeda's that Bill Clinton visited a few years back, not too long before he left the White House.
