Californian Democratic club raising funds for Republican Ron Paul responds
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 04:18 PM by johncoby2
Here is what I got from the idiots. I will NOT share what I wrote back:

While our organization has little or no influence on Texas politics, we are a little concerned about your state's failure to find a candidate likely to beat a very popular Ron Paul. Our research tells us that Shane Sklar is anti-choice, anti-gay, pro-war and anti-impeachment. How do you expect Democrats to rally around that kind of alternative to a man who has given an interview in support of the impeachment of Bush and who opposes Bush on trade policy, war policy and on the attacks on our civil liberties? Our organization has disagreed with a number of Ron Paul's positions as you can see by looking at our 2005 voting chart. (Our 2006 voting chart is still under construction.) However, we want him to continue to support us on important issues, such as opposition to Bush and opposition to all war. We also intend to continue to thank those who oppose Bush and his right-wing agenda and to continue to encourage others to oppose Bush.

We sincerely hope the Democrats take back Texas as we oppose Delay's and Perry's right-wing politics. As for Paul, your best bet might be to convince him to switch parties if that will make the difference in leadership. To us, it looks as if he is guaranteed to win his re-election bid. He was in more danger of losing his seat to a right-wing Republican in the primary than he is of losing to a right-wing Democrat in the general election. As for Bush, we want him out of office and in a jail cell with the other members of his Administration and his supporters in Congress for their crimes against humanity.

2. Of all the snotty responses.
I wonder if Ruth understands that Sklar isn't a candidate that I would go out and select either? Admittedly, Shane is no box of chocolates, but I just want a majority right now, Ron Paul is one Anti-War candidate I cannot support. If they did half of the research they claimed they would rrealize that any liberal could not support Paul either.

3. Are these LaRouche style "Democrats"?
Or some other mutant variety? They sure don't sound like they come from our wing of the party.

4. Isn't this "Patrick Henry" outfit
The group always being quoted by a former DUer as passing idiotic resolutions demanding that Harry Reid resign for not punching Bill Frist in the nose? What a bunch of lunatics! They seem to prove the axiom that if you move far enough to the left, you can shake hands with the Right.

5. Guess what. I've seen a copy of that email and you incorrectly edited it.
It contained a statement that the PHDC was hoping that the Texas Democrats would be successful in November and win the state. It commented on the support they had for the courage of the Texas legislators who went to Oklahoma and spoke of a poem one of their members had written in support of the Texas Democrats. There are other places where this information is posted and the PHDC is getting a lot of support in those places for their opposition to war.

Your attack on the PHDC is an attack on a paragraph that encourages all Democrats to support Dennis Kucinich and makes it clear they will reward all who oppose war.

Rather than misleading people as to where they stand, how about posting the full email you received. That's the Democrat way.

7. I think you're missing the point
We're working our asses off in Texas to try to take the state back. And we don't take too kindly to people from out of state who call themselves Democrats interfering and undermining our efforts. That's the Texas way.

Is PHDC chartered by the Democratic party? In Texas a club that endorses a member of another party over a Democratic candidate risks losing its charter. Not because every Democratic candidate is perfect, but because the Democratic candidate won the primary.

Ron Paul voted against renewing the VRA. Do you take issue with that?

When a candidate has an R after their name, they are a member of a party that is working hard to undermine the very fabric of our democracy.

9. "Hoping that the Texas Democrats would be successful in November?"
Does that include the 14th congressional district?

8. PHD could learn a lesson from Amendment II Democrats
Do you actively oppose Democrats who support sensible gun measures if they run for public office?

We are Democrats, and as such we will support our party's nominees for local, state, and federal office. During the primaries, however, if any Democratic candidate supports gun control measures that Amendment II Democrats oppose (such as reauthorizing the national ban on semi-automatics), that primary candidate is fair game, and we will encourage voters to support Democratic candidates who are in greater harmony with our outlook on Second Amendment rights. But once the primaries are over and the candidates for the general election have been chosen, it is important that all Democrats pull together and support our party's candidates as best as we are able. Under no circumstances will Amendment II Democrats support Republican candidates who run against anti-RKBA Democrats. We are, after all, Democrats.
