Any teachers or public school employees here?
A board member of ours (Bay Area New Democrats) in Houston is running for State Representative. She just retired from 25 years in teaching, has adovacated for public education on the national and state level, and we believe is one of the most qualified candidates in the State.

If you are a teacher, parent, student, or support the public education system, please consider visiting http://www.actblue.com/page/matula and donate $10 or more.

Sherrie is by far one of the BEST in public education.

1. Take my word for this, also
Sherrie is the best. I am an educator in the Houston area, although not in public schools (in informal education.) I follow the legislative races all across the state looking for qualified candidates who will be instrumental in the House to change the direction of public education in Texas.

I'm stuck in a House district that is going to be solidly Republican for seemingly the next eternity (Charlie Howard), so I have to look for candidates elsewhere to support to effect change in the legislature.

I'm EXTREMELY concerned about where our Texas educational system is headed. Most people don't realize the real effects of HB 1. It goes way beyond the property tax reductions. There are school financing issues that were legislated that are going to put whole school districts in such a hole that it will cause them to cut essential personnel and services within two years.

Sherrie understands the ins and outs of these issues more than anyone I've talked to. It's really remarkable how she not only has the typical educator expertise in pedagogy, but also in school finance and school law. She has the ability to think long term and be strategic, thinking broadly about the big picture while focusing on the details.

I've gone on long enough. Sherrie is NOT in my House district, but I am supportive of her with my dollars and my time.

I hope you will be also, because honestly, I don't know of anyone else currently in the House or who is running who is as talented as she is.

2. I am in education and I will definitely check out her
site. We are going to need many like her to fix the mess in which the bozos in Austin have placed us.
