This weekend I will be leaving Texas after having lived here for 8 years. I had the pleasure of meeting some of you in person, and I am grateful for that. I salute all of you who have so courageously worked against the grain of Texas' dominant political culture. Someday, things will change. I just can't say that I know when that will be.
Texas has a lot to offer, and there is a lot to do here, but I do not fit in in this state. I am a native Californian, and I just never adapted very well to the social and political and culture of this state. Still, I consider my experience here to have been a valuable one, for I learned a lot about America, and about myself in the process.
So now I begin the next step in my personal and professional journey in life.

As a native Texan who spent many, many years in California, I could be your mirror twin. I find much to love in both states, but I often longed for Texas when I was in California, and vice versa. I'm glad you're leaving with fond memories. All the best to you and your new future.:hi:

2. But worry, Bluestateguy.... |

I'm a native Texan, and I didn't fit in there, either. Seattle's home now (I glow with blue pride when I hear red-staters attempt to malign it as "the People's Republic of Seattle"). Like you, I hope someday Texas will come around, but unlike you, I'm not very optimistic about that. Those with serious problems have to recognize their issues and want to change, and I don't see either of those pre-requisites attracting anything like an electoral majority in Texas in my lifetime (or that of our grandchildren, for that matter). I hope I'm wrong.

I'm a "recent" Texan. (7 years)
I love the quality of life in the community in which I live. But politically all I do is shake my head.
I did travel to Galveston County and met some great Democrats who work very hard.
My repug congressman gets about 75% of the vote. ( despite his drunken driving )
The religious influence is frightening.
I'm retired and living in Texas. I never miss an opportunity to remind people that I retired at 52 with a pension and medical coverage. Thanks to my union. Thanks to the Democratic representatives in my former state in the NE.
I may never understand some of these people.

4. Are you sure you couldn't stay until November? |
|
We could definitely use your vote.
But I understand your wanting to move. I'm a Native Texan and I also don't really fit in, but at the present time I can't afford to move outta state. Just remember there are sane people who live here, and we're not ALL Rednecks, Hicks, and Freepers.......
Good Luck to you in all your endeavors!
