KINKY TELLS RIGHT-WING RADIO HOST HE'D SIGN ANTI-ABORTION LAW!
as reported on http://lonestarpundit.wordpress.com/2006/09/08/texas-gubers-on-abortion/

Right-wing talk radio nutjob Dan Patrick (who will likely be the next Texas State Senate for District 7 — yikes!) plans to introduce a pro-life trigger law in anticipation of the right-wing's hoped for Supreme Court judicial activism overruling Roe v. Wade.

Such a trigger law would operate so that, immediately upon reversal of Roe v. Wade, abortions would be instantaneously banned in Texas. Here's some red-meat from Patrick for anyone who's unfamiliar with his particular brand of ChristoFascism: “When the Supreme Court puts a stop to the madness, I want Texas to be a state that protects life. With a Texas trigger law, we can save lives immediately.”

Chris Bell’s response to Patrick’s announcement was appropriate: “I would veto that,” he told the AP, “I think the majority of Texans are still pro-choice.”

Perry's response was a predictable waffle: “It’s hard to comment on a specific bill that hasn’t even been written,” according to Perry's campaign, “the governor would certainly want to see the bill.”

True to form, Strayhorn won't comment.

Here is the Lone Star Pundit's report on Kinky's response:

"The real surprising response was the one offered just this week by independent candidate Kinky Friedman, who is surprisingly still very much in the gubernatorial race at this point. Friedman is publicly pro-choice, which is affirmed by his campaign website. However, in a radio interview with Dan Patrick on Wednesday afternoon, Kinky was asked what he would do if (1) he were elected governor, and (2) Patrick’s proposed trigger law legislation were passed. Friedman’s first reaction was simply, “Well, I’m running for governor, not to play God.” But when pressed by Patrick as to whether he would sign or veto such a law, Friedman said that he would sign it."

PLEASE HELP GET THE WORD OUT!

8. I hope this will be a good thing...
IF we can get the word out to Dems who think he's liberal, this could turn a lot of them.

I met a bunch of really cool older self-proclaimed "Raging Democrats" in the Hill Country last month, who are big Kinky fans. But they have known him and been fans of his for years, so he had an advantage with them. When I started telling them about him running as a republican, voting for Bush, etc, they were shocked, and said "We'll have to ask him about that." They hadn't heard any of that before I told them. I know they are all very much pro-choice. I hope by sending them this information, it will be another straw on the back for them in regards to supporting him.

PLEASE tell all Kinky supporters you know about this! Most of them are good people, but misguided. If they really understand that he does NOT represent our values, they will turn on him!

9. I emailed a friend who is a Kinky fan, and here was her reply...
"WTF? He better have misunderstood the question. Otherwise, he just lost this household (and I am sure MANY others)."

So, I went on to share his other quotes showing lack of support for women's reproductive choice. She has now stated that neither she nor her husband will be voting for him based on this. Just the night before last, I was telling her that he was an opportunist, and if more dems really knew that he did NOT share our values, they would turn on him. So it was actually great timing to have this quote to show her.

She is also close friends with several other Kinky supporters, who I KNOW are strongly pro-choice. I am sure she will be sharing this tidbit with them too.

The message is this: Most democrats supporting Kinky are NOT informed about the important issues that he differs with democrats on. THIS is what we need to share. Don't WRITE-OFF Kinky supporters! They can be turned when they are faced with the fact that he does NOT share their democratic values!

16. Here is what I told her....
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 11:38 AM by Lisa0825
She said "I thought he SAID he was pro-choice?" I said, "Well, on his website, if you look in the "issues" section.... it's not even there. Yo have to go to the "Frequently Asked Questions Section, and it says:

Q: How does Kinky feel about abortion?
A: Kinky believes in a woman's right to choose.

"Funny how almost every other question has a paragraph-long answer except that one. So at this point, I'd say he's lukewarm on it. So, put that ONE SENTENCE together with TWO replies in interiews - the one I already told you yesterday and this one:

"I'm not pro-life, and I'm not pro-choice. I'm pro-football."

"Now how does it add up? I see absolutely NO support for choice. I only see an opportunist trying to play both sides of the fence."
