1. Perhaps you should direct this to the people running the organizations? |
|
I mean I am relatively powerless to do very much about it, since i am not any Tom, Dick ot Harry activist organization. Just a thought...

It really sucks when volunteers are running off to planning sessions to impeach the frickin idiot, when we need help to get Democrats in power so we can!
Shit folks. Lets win before we do anything else. We should be block walking and phone banking.
Does it look like I am frustrated?

like you might want to consider, live and let live. Who's freedom are you fighting for?
You put a lot more faith in "Democrats" than this Texas gal.
edit: do you read the big board?

4. People should work where their strengths lie. |
|
Not everyone feels comfortable cold-calling or block-walking or feels physically up to it. And maybe those folks feel more strongly about a cause than any candidate. Hell, a lot of folks are fed up with BOTH major parties. I'm happy for anyone that is working on ANYTHING, whether it is a campaign, an issue, or just a rally to keep folks fired up. It's all good. :hippie:

These activities are taking away my block walkers and phone bankers.
A rally here and there is great, if they take only those who do not work on a campaign.

6. I don't think they have much control over who shows up... |
|
it's up to your volunteers to choose where they go. I mean really, can the Church and State people say, "Sorry, you're supposed to phone bank today. You can't come in."
I know you're just letting off steam here, but my point is that the responsibility is on the shoulders of the volunteers to decide how to spend their time, along with the campaign folks to get the message to them about how much they are needed. I don't expect anyone to cancel events to free up time. On the contrary... more people are fired up during election season than the rest of the calendar, and if these orgs are going to continue to get new people involved, they can't just lay low and wait it out.

I don't think we are good AT ALL with communicating to people how important it is to do the real work of the campaign - the voter ID, the persuading, the GOTV. I didn't use to get it and it wasn't until some people patiently explained how those activities actually bank the votes, that I realized that the numbers associated with these activities are key. The more voter contact you make, the more votes you will get. Pretty simple, but not really talked about.
Anyone who read about Bush's success in 2004, knows that he got more votes than predicted because of their organized grass roots efforts. John Kerry should not have been in a position to be beaten over voter irregularities.
This is crunch time and the true believers need to know that their help is needed at a campaign office right now. This is very, very serious. If we don't do the WORK, all we'll be doing for the next 2-4 years is going to rallies on issues that piss us off.
And, if being on the phone or walking is not someone's thing, my advice is to send money to your candidates, host a house party, do data entry, write LTE, but do something tangible that will lead to VOTES, not a feel good feeling.
The VERY best way to tell the president that he is a f**cking idiot, is to ensure that Democrats control Congress after Nov. 7.

Instead of attending a rally, go make a few hundred phone calls for a candidate.
