HCR-1 Marriage resolution presented in special session.
Just got this email from a member of the Texas Populist Political Caucas...

Corbin Van Arsdale's Anti-Gay Resolution Advances.

On the first day of the current special session of the Texas Legislature, HCR 1 was referred to the House Committee on Juvenile Justice and Family Issues. Despite the pressing need to reform the system of school finance in Texas, Representative Van Arsdale believes the Texas Legislature should take up the divisive issue of amending the United States Constitution.

We think otherwise.

Texas State Representative Corbin Van Arsdale (R-Houston) filed House Concurrent Resolution 1 (HCR 1), encouraging the United States Congress to amend "the Constitution of the United States to provide that marriage shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman and to prohibit the U.S. Constitution, the constitution of any state, or any state or federal law, to be construed to require that marital status or the legal incidents thereof be conferred on unmarried couples or groups."

Much of the rhetoric in this debate centers around what is best for families. Clearly, such a mean spirited resolution does nothing to protect families. Amending the U.S. Constitution on this issue would only hurt our families.

Now is time for our community to speak out against this drastic measure! Let Mr. Corbin Van Arsdale hear about your family and why you stand opposed to his divisive measure. Take few minutes to wirte your family's story, so that Mr. Van Arsdale uderstands we only want the same things he does.

Let's make Mr. Van Arsdale understand the dynamics of our family lives and why civil protections for our loved ones are so important to us.

Click on the picture of Representative Van Arsdale to use our newest advocacy tool. A recent upgrade to our website now allows you to send a fax directly to Mr. Van Arsdale's capitol office in matter of minutes.

Or you can copy and paste this address into your web browser: http://www.actionstudio.org/public/page_view_all.cfm?option=begin&pageid=4680

You voice does matter. LET IT BE HEARD NOW!

It will take less than five minutes and it will help the Texas LGBT community have an even greater voice in the debate on our rights.
