Running against Cornyn: Rick Noriega vs Ray McMurrey
Take a look at a comparison chart at:
http://muse-musings.blogspot.com/2008/02/lets-compare-rick-noriega-and-ray.html

We have a political nobody trying to run for US Senate against one of the best candidates Texas has had in a long long time. Come on by and see who we are running against John Cornyn.

1. Do you suppose Ray has seen that?
What kind of fool would mount a race when the odds are so long and the stakes so high?

2. Norriega in a landslide
Gene Kelly is going to make things worse. We still have a good portion of our voting population who are crazy or stupid enough to vote for dead dancers. I have a feeling that Gene Kelly is going to get more votes than Ray McMurray.

One of these people doesn't belong with the others. He belongs in the US Senate - that man is Rick Noriega.

U.S. Senate

Gene Kelly

Ray McMurrey

Rick Noriega

3. Gene Kelly's contributor list:
(blank)

According to NewsMeat Donor Search, Gene Kelly has ZERO donors. That the same number he had for his House race two yrs ago.

I don't know that I trust that information, but it does seem interesting.

4. No I believe it
This has been reported many times. He does nothing to campaign for votes. All he does is pay the filing fee to the Democratic Party which is $3K and that's it. That's the extent of his campaign. He just sits back and sees how many votes or runoffs he can collect.

Although I secretly suspect that he has republican friends that may give him money secretly i.e. not as a campaign contribution, but maybe they buy things for him as gifts, or hire him. I just have my suspicions about him.

I heard that in Bexar County, one of the workers gave him a good verbal thrashing when he showed up to file. Obviously he was not intimidated.

5. Gee, there's something missing from the chart, but what could it be?
Oh, yeah, silly me. THE ISSUES!!

I know Rick Noriega is a good man, but my support is going to Ray McMurrey. I'll support whomever wins the primary, though.

6. Seriously, are you stupid or what?
If you have to ask what his issue are, then you need to vote for McMurrey.

lets get a grip folks. Noriega is a good candidate. Not a perfect candidate. A good candidate.

McMurrey is a bad candidate. Not a possible candidate. A bad candidate.

Seriously, if he beat Rick would he be able to campaign against Cornyn? NO!

So please get real. McMurrey is not a candidate. He is an hinderance.

7. Your opinion, and yours alone...
I respect your primary candidate, so please respect mine.

In all fairness, I found this, which could serve as a key to Noriega's campaign issues:

There's some good stuff in there. But I'm confident in McMurrey's ability to hold Cornyn's feet to the fire on the issues as well.

8. No, not his alone
I agree with johncoby2.

As to the issues, electability is a MAJOR issue to me. And a guy with a $776 war chest is not electable in any Texas race. It takes more money than that to run for JP, Constable, or County Commissioner. How in the hell can he run a state wide race with $776?

9. Amen to that
Progressives need to get over the notion that a barefoot boy whose heart is pure will ever win an election without raising and spending serious money. McMurrey is probably going to finish beind Gene Kelly.

10. How many candidates started with that much money - or less?
I'm not interested in whether a candidate has "deep pockets." What I try to do is look at the issues at hand and see which candidate best addresses the issues that I consider important.

If enough people feel the same way about McMurrey's take on the issues, then McMurrey's war chest will grow.

If not, he'll be defeated handily in the primaries, and I'll happily throw my support behind Noriega.

15. Well said...
...but I would counter that a lot of Obama supporters were also told a few months ago that his campaign was an exercise in futility. Just take a look at the delegates under his belt and the states that have voted for him since the Iowa caucuses, though.

Sometimes, you gotta expect the impossible. This has been one hell of a primary season so far.

And to all of the Rick Noriega supporters on DU (including johncoby2)... :hi::patriot::hug:

He has a staff that is covering the whole state. Go Noriega!
