We have the voting primary, but after the vote we also have the precinct convention to elect delegates. So what role does the voting primary play? are the delegates then bound to vote according to the result of their primary?

1. Not sure if this is helpful...... TX Dems are holding delegate training seminars
all around the state.

From an email I received today:

I am pleased to announce the Texas Democratic Party will be holding a Delegate Selection Training this Saturday, February 9th, at the UAW Union Hall in Grand Prairie. The Democratic nominee may not be determined until the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, so if you're interested in nominating the next President of the United States, this is your chance to learn about the convention process and find out how you can represent Texas. We hope to see you there!

When: Saturday, February 9th 4:00 PM

Where: UAW Union Hall (map) 2218 East Main St. Grand Prairie

Contact: Brian Pendleton pendletonb@dnc.org

Here's the TX dems info.

http://www.txdemocrats.org/the_party/tdp_delegate_selection_trainings

I talked with my local Dem HQ's today to inquire about the training. There is one scheduled for Feb. 23 in Fort Worth.

I also needed some clarification on our primary. I read somewhere that Texas would only be holding a presidential primary. I got confused, because I thought we always voted for other candidates during our primary. I was told that I was correct, and it is not just for the presidential race.

Anyway good luck with your quest for answers.

8. I just went to the TDP website, found one near me, and signed up!
That's great, because I missed the one in Grand Prairie last weekend. Thanks for posting!

11. I was given the task of planning ours
I planned it for March 1. Feb. 23 is out because of the Washington's Birthday Parade (Laredo shuts down for this thing & you can't get anywhere near downtown). Now I get a call from the party chair that the senate committee man wants it held between 2/23 & 2/25, not exactly conducive with getting people to show up. :eyes: Hopefully, he'll be convinced that March 1 is the better date for Webb County.

2. We all need to read this
http://txdems.3cdn.net/11ae19646381305920_tom6bhhx8.pdf

That's the Delegate Selection Plan.

The primary will determine the allocation of delegates between Clinton and Obama in your SD. The state delegates who sign in for each of those candidates in June will select who those delegates are in their SD caucuses at the State Convention.

The delegates who sign in with their presidential preferences at state will determine the proportion each candidate gets of the at-large pledged delegates, who are elected by the convention as a whole (although in practice we know they will be selected by the folks operating behind the curtain and we peons will have the privilege of approving their nominees.)

At least that's my read on it... if anyone understands better, please speak up!

4. All the world's a stage
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances

I'm simply glad that 2006 was a primer for floor fights.

9. You're right about that.
What I learned from 2006:
- Organization
- Stay on the floor
- Turnout

Indeed!

13. Oh gawd, yes.
:eyes:

I must say, I'm looking forward to this, in a perverse sort of way.

You know, I'm still undecided, although I shall make up my mind shortly. And, I know it's not the right reason to decide, but I am starting to lean towards Obama just because all of those annoying "business-as-usual" Democratic establishment types (at least in my neck of the woods) are all up in the Hillary camp. I mean really. Can't that old dog ever learn a new trick? :silly:

14. That's one of the reasons I'm voting for Obama
Things are all f'd up in Texas because of the establishment that's been in charge & their policy of "Roll over & play dead." I'm supposed to trust them NOW? I don't think so.

There is no such thing as the Texas Primary, Part I
There is no such thing as the Texas Primary, Part II

I'm going to keep these reference links on this thread. Part two of this post is very good detail. Breakdown by senate district with some projections. Each chart by senate district can be enlarged to see the demographic detail. Get to know your senate district!
