Record numbers vote early
Postcards for the Lege blog 2/20/08
Record numbers vote early

About five times as many Travis County residents participated in the first day of early voting Tuesday as compared with the number of voters from the same time in 2004.

According to data from the County Clerk’s office, 7,398 voters visited 28 early voting locations Tuesday. Another 671 sent in ballots by mail.

On the first day of early voting in the 2004 primaries, 1,625 Travis County residents voted.

(snip)

Travis County’s numbers fell just shy of the vote counts in Harris and Dallas counties. In Harris, 9,243 votes were cast, whereas 8,615 votes were cast in Dallas.

Fantastic work people. I imagine that after that rally in Dallas today, Dallas is going to kick it up some more.

1. I voted this morning.
There was a 5 minute wait. That is MOST unusual in my precinct. But we have some hot Republican races here too.

3. Numbers from Waller - inspirational
The Waller county voter's march has a big back story. It's on the greatest page on DU now and it was front paged on Burnt Orange Report yesterday.
Thousands of Prairie View Students March 7.3 Miles to Vote
Lots of good picture links on that one.

And it all started with a blog post by dewberry on Daily Kos yesterday morning.

And now there's video from the students too.

BOR blog
I just spoke with the elections office in Waller County.

The day closed yesterday with:

Rep: 82 voters
Dem: 472 voters

In a county that votes for Republicans in large numbers, this number is HUGE!!!!

Also, I can report that in Austin County, the race was almost equal yesterday. That is HUGE information because Republicans normally out vote Democrats (at least in primaries) at the rate of 10-to-1.
