My in-laws are voting for Obama! |
|
My in-laws live in deep East Texas, where you still have to vote in the Democratic primary to count in all the local races. They liked Reagan, couldn't stand Bill Clinton, and preferred * over all other options in previous years. I think they think my liberal views are because I grew up in the big city (Houston) and now live in Austin, where I have of course "corrupted" their son to my way of thinking. I love my in-laws, they're not rabid right-wingers, but we don't usually discuss politics. But they're voting for Obama because they can't stand Hillary Clinton--they were surprised we weren't supporting her since she's so "liberal." Anyway, they're some of the very last people I would expect to vote for him, especially since, well, they live in a neighborhood where a few years ago a real estate agent refused to sell the house across the street from them to a black couple. They're not racist, but they are prejudiced, and if they can put that aside and vote for Obama in the primary that is quite a shock. I don't know who they'll support in the general election (my suspicion is they'll cancel each other out).

1. How Do They Feel About John McCain? |
|
Do you think that they'd pick McCain over Obama in the general election?

4. Well maybe between here and Nov |

McCain will look worse and worse to them. And if they can vote in the Democratic primary certainly they can't have a problem voting in the general for a Democrat.
They're not just voting in the primary to screw things up, are they? I mean if they think McCain has it sewn up, they're just messing in our primary to make sure Hillary loses?
I'm surprised to hear that in East Texas you would have to vote in the Democratic primary to get to the local races. I would have thought those were all republicans who were in the local races.
Good to hear the news.

I think my MIL will vote for Obama and my FIL will vote for McCain. At least in their county, the Democratic primary is still where you elect the county judges, etc. Classic case of Reagan Democrats.

6. What's the difference between racist and prejudiced? |
|
I ask honestly. I am also from East Texas, and am continually and increasingly shocked, dismayed, and befuddled by the attitude of my relatives, including my own parents.
The older I get, the more I find I have to confront the facts - they are racists.

8. Amazing that people think Hillary is "liberal." |
|
That just shows how far right the country has gone. Hopefully, Obama will win and show people what real liberals can do, that government belongs to us & not special interest groups, and people will finally realize what "liberal" really is, and that it's the best direction for our country.
