A shameless plea. *
Okay, folks, here’s the deal. Steve Bush (yeah, I know it’s an unfortunate name for a Democrat) is running for congress against Smokey Joe Barton in congressional district 6 here in Texas. Steve wants to win and this is the best year for it. Barton is losing support with some Republican voters because of his votes against SCHIP, against the economic stimulus package, against autism research, against environmental controls on local concrete plants and for the Iraq war. Rumor has it that Barton will retire after 2010 leaving the seat open to a “clean” Republican candidate of his choosing with his rolodex of contributors. Barton isn’t weak, but this is do-able. Democratic vote has gone from 28% to 33% to 37% with no state or national support.

Steve needs money. The first hurdle is $50,000 at which point the DCCC and TDP will begin to pay attention. He has passed $10,000 on his own effort alone in the first reporting period. In the 2006 race David Harris garnered 80,000 votes. If Steve had $25 for every one of those votes he could kick Barton’s ass all the way back to Ennis Texas. Aww, bullshit, if he had $10 for each of those votes he could win.

Do you want to defeat one of the most powerful Republicans in the House? Send Steve Bush some cash. http://stevebushforcongress.com/ accepts PayPal. Not your style? Send a check to the P.O. box on the site.

$100 is good. More is better. $5 will do. I’m in for $150 so far and I’m committed to more as I can get it.

Think Texas isn’t your problem? Barton’s campaign contributed $330,000 in excess campaign funds to the RCCC to fund Repugs in YOUR STATE. This is your fight so saddle up people.

*This shameless plea fits the DU rules as per Skinner (I asked first). Look for more periodically until November. Hey, ya’ gotta’ ask yer frenz ‘cause yer enemies sure as hell won’t hep ya’.
