2. Another slap on the wrist from a gop committee
From a salon.com article today. Latourette is "my" GOP congressman:

As it happens, Rep. LaTourette is also a member of the House ethics committee. He recently sat in judgment on Majority Leader Tom DeLay when he was investigated for offering financial support to the political campaign of a retiring representative's son in exchange for his vote on the Republican Medicare bill. Although LaTourette has received $16,000 in campaign contributions from DeLay since 1994, he said before the committee's report was issued that he would not be influenced by any such relationship. "This is typical of the ethics committee, which is a joke," says Sloan. "It exists only to give cover to those acting unethically." On Sept. 30, the ethics committee voted to admonish DeLay, but not to levy any penalties.

Ethics Panel Rebukes DeLay Twice in a Week
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=512&e=2&u=/ap/delay_ethics

WASHINGTON - The House ethics committee Wednesday criticized House Majority Leader Tom DeLay for conduct that appeared to link political donations to legislation and for improperly contacting U.S. aviation authorities for political purposes, House sources said Wednesday.

The committee's findings were an extraordinary second rebuke of the Texas Republican's ethical conduct in just six days.

It's not so extraordinary to think the bugman has no morals. "Hot Tub Tom" is going down.

What a week we are having!!!

7. I believe they found the smoking gun:
AUSTIN - A newly obtained memo indicates U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay had personal involvement in directing some of the fund-raising activities of a political action committee that is under a grand jury investigation.

Three of DeLay's political associates have been indicted by a Travis County grand jury on charges of illegal fund raising involving Texans for a Republican Majority, TRMPAC. DeLay, who was a TRMPAC founder, has distanced himself from its operations.

A memo obtained by the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday indicates DeLay was more than a passive participant in TRMPAC fund-raising events.

8. Today's front page story:
Committee is DISMISSING THE CHANGES -- while sending DeLay a scolding letter -- re Counts I (Westar) and III (misusing federal resources) and postponing any decision on count II pending outcome of the trials of his buddies in Travis County.

The best news to come out of this, I think, is that it keeps Mr. DeLay's ethical issues (Juanita calls him "bi-moral") on the front page, hopefully enough buzz to lose him votes. The only truly effective "strike" against this man will be to replace him with Richard Morrison.

But, kudos to ALL for keeping the pressure on, keeping it on the front page, etc.!
