Austin Debate Watching Party

Please join Austin For Kerry and the Travis County Democratic Party at Mother Egan's Irish Pub (714 W 6th) at 7pm and watch Senator John Kerry debate President "this job is really, really hard" Bush.

Last week’s presidential debate party and this week’s vice presidential debate party at Ruta Maya was a great success, with hundreds of people uniting to watch Senators John Kerry and John Edwards lay out a plan for greatly needed change in this country. By all accounts, counting even Republicans’ opinions, Kerry won the first debate. The town hall format for the second debate plays to Kerry’s strength. This debate may well determine the outcome of this election.

In addition to watching the show on a big screen, drinks and food are available, as well as plenty of Kerry/Edwards shirts, buttons, bumper-stickers, and other gear. We'll also have updates on more local events as well as opportunities to get involved in the local Democratic campaign.

2. What kind of crowd to expect?
I'd really like to attend this because we don't own a television. I'm a little worried about attending and not finding a seat. Can anyone who has been to one of these events tell me how large a crowd may come?

I'm not totally neurotic or lazy, just six months pregnant! I want to be able to sit down if I need to.

I really REALLY want to watch the debate tonight, and this is the only viewing party that I've heard about.

Any info or advice?

There should be a good group of other Austin DUers there and I imagine we'll wrangle a table. My pic is in the Gallery...I'll be all in black. :)

Everyone had a seat the last time we had a gathering at Mother Egan's.

5. Come on. These are Democrats.
I'm sure someone will be willing to give you a seat, even if it DOES get crowded. :D

Congratulations on the impending arrival! The folks in Austin are great. Have fun!

10. It'll be nice to see you again
I want to get there early if I can, but it all depends on when the hubby gets home. When do you expect to get there?? Happy hour ends at 7 so it makes sense to get there earlier (that, and to get good seats of course :) )

11. I'd imagine I'll get there around 6:15 or 6:30
I get off work at 5:30. I have to change clothes (brought them to work with me) and then get down there in rush hour traffic...so I'm thinking 45 minutes minimum after I get off. Early enough to catch the end of happy hour. :) Woohoo!

12. Don't you just hate the last 10 minutes of work on Fridays???
Again, if Paul gets home soon, I'm hoping to leave at 6 which should get me there around the same time as you (assuming there aren't any fender benders on mopac)

I've never been to this pub before, is there decent parking?
