Hunt County report!
Hey all--

So last week we had our amazing Rockwall County chili supper (with over 100 attending....the miracles continue!) and while we were there hawking copies of "Bush Family Fortunes," 2 guys walked over to us whom I didn't recognize.

They were from Hunt County, just next door (Greenville and Commerce are the main towns there, if you need a reference point) and told us about the fund-raising dinner, that they were having tonight.

So reprehensor and I traveled 25 miles out of our comfort zone in Rockwall County even further east! I'm jealous! They're even better organized than we are!

reprehensor volunteered to help them with their Web site, which they still don't have yet, and we saw quite a few of our Rockwall Co folks out there too.

From a relatively small number like us, their numbers have also gone WAY up! There were also easily over 100 people there.

The highlight of the evening for me was hearing John Sharp speak! I hadn't had the pleasure before. He spoke of what we need to be doing to make Texas great; concentrating on our kids! We are going to have the greatest number of kids here in Texas (next to Provo, Utah) and if we don't improve the educational system, the labor opportunites are going to pass us by. Companies will not want to locate here if our kids and stupid and unhealthy.

I hadn't realized that Perry, among all the other shit he's done, got rid of the Texas Tomorrow Fund! A brilliant idea (originated by Sharp), and now it's gone.

So, I'd been wondering what I was going to do when all this is over after November 2nd; politics is all I've been doing for a year and a half.

And now I know. They didn't come right out and say it, but it sounds like Sharp is running for governor in 2006!

A great evening. People are doing good work everywhere.

Hunt county will vote Democratic more heavily than our own little fascist county of Rockwall. Glad you got to go east on I-30. Did you finally see my place of work from the freeway?

And yes, I was about to start my daughter Rose on the Texas Tomorrow Fund. The Repigs got rid of it so that state universities could set their own tuition rates without interference from the state govt. This was done so that they would not have to "raise taxes." They are pigs.

2. I told r.
about the fascist house up the road from you and wanted to go check it out, but we were running late.

I'll try to check it out this week.

Saw lots of places along the highway. Remind me what the sign said; I might remember if I saw it!

3. I love hearing things like this
Of course we are very optimistic in Travis County this year and we have to keep reminding ourselves "Austin is not Texas. Austin is not Texas." But it sure sounds like things really are stirring out past the Arboretum and 2006 is going to be very interesting.

John Sharp running for governor? Where do I sign up?

4. I KNOW!
Wouldn't it be awesome?

I wasn't yet paying attention when he was in the Capitol, and now wish I had. He told a really funny story about Ann Richards installing a "hotline" in his office....a big red phone. But when he tried to use it, the line was dead.

Turns out, it was her personal hotline to him, but it didn't work the other way around. She thought if Bush Sr. could have his own hotline, so could she! :-)

Everything he said made such perfect sense. I wish he could have stayed awhile; I would LOVE to have talked to him for a bit afterwards! One of his in-laws was in very bad health and he had to drive across the state last night.

As he said last night, "Here's to the end of Goodhair Government in Texas!"

The man just coined a phrase. Let it be our battle cry!

5. Hey...I'm originally from Hunt County...
Greenville to be exact. My parents still live there and are yellow dog Dems. Hunt County will go for Kerry.

How do I know this?

Because my parents long-time Repub next door neighbor who ALWAYS has a sign in his yard for EVERY election...has NOT put up a Bush-Cheney sign this year. Things must be REALLY bad for the repubs if they've driven him off.

7. I thought of you while we driving out!
And said, "Hey honey-- Velma's from 'round these parts."

Next time you talk to your parents ask em if they went. We probably saw them there.

Good to hear about your parent's neighbor, but there were still TONS of big-ass Bush signs everywhere. We still have work to do!

9. I'm pretty sure they weren't there...
'cause they were out of town this past weekend. Bummer you didn't get to meet them though,

Believe me, if you met my dad you'd remember...he's 6'6" tall. :)

10. Holy crap!
Tall dad.

Mine was 6'4", but wouldn't you know I got mom's. She's only 5'.

We may try to go out more in the future, since it looks like Al may be helping with their Website.

I'll keep an eye out for them in the future, though.

11. I know what you mean...
my mom's only about 5'5". I sort of split the difference between them. Whenever I whine about being short my momma always says, "I found you the tallest daddy I could." :)

I've been nagging them to get more involved with the local Party...especially my momma now that she's retired. Maybe you'll run into them.

12. Didn't know where to put this, but ---
Mr. Brazosboomer is driving to Abilene today. He called me on his cell and as we were chatting, he suddenly hollered, "Good Lord, Hamilton County has a big Democratic headquarters on the town square!" He said he'd stop in and make a small donation just because he's never seen a Democratic HQ in Hamilton county before.

I'll be danged. We're everywhere!

13. Woo hooo!!!
Hey Juanita Jean I don't have my atlas in front of me. Is Hamilton Abilene's county, or is it partway up? you be sure to say hi to mr. brazosboomer for me! Bless his heart!

Could he make a detour through Rowlett on his way home and give us one too? ;-)

Even in our little semi-fascist county, we're looking at trying to get an HQ. Our Dem chairman brought it up once and hasn't pushed it much since then, but I want it, and I talk to anyone I can think of to try to make it happen.

At this point, we're willing to take up a 2nd little office in someone's warehouse space. Whatever we can get! The Repugs have a new office around the corner from where we meet. Kinda sucks.

We ARE everywhere! :D

14. I love hearing about all these reports of Democrats coming out
standing tall and proud, and fighting to take back our state back. I love John Sharp too! He can win a statewide race too.

Thanks for the report FSC and all above that posted good stories about the Democrats standing up.

Yeah us!!

17. Glad to hear this!
After the party he hosted at the convention I thought this was coming. One of my friends worked for him for over a decade. I'd really like to see him run for governor, but I'm wistful for what he could have done as lieutenant gov.
