KBH is running for TX Gov. - 2010 (No joke)
Postcards from the Lege blog 4/1/08
Hutchison held secret summit on state issues
By W. Gardner Selby | Tuesday, April 1, 2008, 05:07 PM

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, whose spokesman was quoted recently saying she’s running for governor, confirmed Tuesday that she’s asking Texas experts to advise her on what’s best for the state.

Very governor-like, no?

Last month, Hutchison had more than 100 experts in their fields from across Texas to a state issues summit at a hotel near Love Field in Dallas. Individuals at the confidential March 17 gathering were broken into a dozen task forces, with the groups expected to give her policy recommendations by later this year, according to a cross-section of participants who declined to be identified out of deference to the senator.

In an invitation letter, Hutchison said she wanted to solicit ideas on key issues facing Texas in hopes of synthesizing ideas that could influence public policies "for our state in a positive manner for a number of years."

:puke:

We better find a good candidate for our side - fast!

3. But, but, she promised
to serve out her term. She's talking about leaving two years early? Guess we have to make an honest woman of her, and defeat her.

Oh, Bill White, are you listening?

4. She lied and we knew she was lying
I like your thinking.

----------------
Kay Bailey promised she would adhere to term limits - she lied. Kay Bailey promised to serve out her term in the US Senate - she lied. What else will Kay Bailey lie about? Texans shouldn't count on Kay Bailey to tell the truth!

5. Chris Bell and Bill White not good enough for ya?
Seems like we need a rich white guy from Dallas in that mix. Maybe a rich white guy from San Antonio. (Mikal Watts?) Nothing against rich white conservative guys, of course. Just thought I'd play the race and gender cards a little early this morning.

12. Actually no....
Bill White has proven himself to be the mayor with the most strings attached and Chris Bell? Are you joking? Ditto for Mikal Watts.

She has two years to campaign. Why not a little "deja vu" and allow Barbara Radnofsky to enjoy a little revenge? Along with the rest of us.

15. Love ya Baby
I knew you would agree with me that if it's one thing we just don't have enough of, it's rich white conservative men running for office.

8. I had already heard she was going to
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it here on DU before.

This is one of the big reasons I'm hoping we can keep our newly energized Texas Democrats mobilized.

9. There have been rumours and she's been coy about them
This is the first time her spokesperson has said it's official as far as I know. The next thing you know, she'll be setting up the campaign committee and she's off and running.

I agree with you, we need a candidate now so that we can work that into our fall GOTV. Let's just start the work early so people hear someone's name they can remember for 2009-2010.

10. Yep. It was all rumors before
But some of them were coming from pretty trustworthy sources.

I'm ready willing and able to begin spreading the word of an alternative. :patriot:

I expect we'll see Kinky attempt to dilute our vote again, too. x( We need to nip that nut in the bud early this time.

13. Bill White is the most common name I hear.
He has a campaigning style that transcends party lines. He's good.

18. The Cheerleader for Corruption
"Give me a t, give me an e, give me a c, give me an h, give me an n, give me an i, give me a c, give me an a, give me an l, give me an i, give me a t, give me a y...."

And with that the cheerleader for corruption waves her pom-poms and pronounces that all felonies, really, are just technicalities. As long as the felon is a Republican, that is.

If the thought wasn't so scary, personally I would love to see her lose the governor's race to Gene Kelly. I suspect she would retire very quietly and very quickly and never be heard from again.

19. She would retire
From public life, she'd spend quite a bit of time on corporate boards and the like.

20. What does that spell?
Technicality.

Damn that was a long word to spell like that. You get an A+ for freaking effort!

I would love to see Gene Kelly run on the R side for once, but I can't say I'd go as far as wanting him to win the Governor's race.

So let's round up the usual suspects - Stinky Kinky, GOP Cheerleader Kay, Dumbo Dewhurst and as yet unnamed Democrat.

22. Reality
Governor 39% was counting on Rudy Guiliani becoming the Republican nominee and being the other half of the ticket. So he is now "odd man out" and if he doesn't run for governor in 2010 what will he run for?

Rumors are some of the KBH supporters, fools all, will try to convince McCain to offer him the other half of his ticket, not likely, or at least commit to offering him a cabinet post, not likely, and so in all probability he will run again. And that puts KBH back where she was in 2006. Sitting on her fence not knowing whether to run or not.

The reality is that 39% of Texans share the vision of Rick Perry and that 39% may sufficient to carry him in a primary and I suspect KBH will accept reality in the end, that 39% may vote for her for senator but never for governor, and not run for governor and will instead run for the Senate again. After all, she has kids to feed and a husband to pull strings for.

I still like the thought of Barbara Radnofsky running for govenor simply because while she can't compete for their votes running against KBH nonetheless she holds some appeal, as does KBH, for the liberal (there are such creatures) Republicans and Libertarians and of course the moderate Republicans all of whom the "39%" consider lower than communists. Texas is a strange state for Democrats. It's even stranger for Republicans when you really look at it. One label does not fit all.

And I'm sorry but I do relish the thought of KBH losing to Gene Kelly and as for him becoming governor, well, I can't imagine anyone being worse for most Texans than Rick Perry. In fact, Gene Kelly probably would never even show up in Austin. We might actually have a productive legislature for a change with a governor who didn't have time to do anything but sign bills or veto them. And he is a Democrat apparently so it might not take much to convince him to veto Craddick into extinction. As Molly Ivins said when she set the 2006 fiasco into motion, why the hell not? Anything, it seems, is better than what we have.
