How is Martin Frost polling?
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 12:59 AM by girl gone mad
I was pleasantly surprised on a drive through Highland Park last week. I'd say the ratio of Frost to Sessions signs was at least 3 to 1, and there were signs everywhere.

I also saw a Sessions commercial featuring Guiliani. I'm not sure how well that's going to go over with Dallasites, since I don't think he has a lot of clout around here.

So.. how is Frost doing? Does the campaign need help? If I were still in Dallas or Collin county, I would be more involved. Since I've moved to Denton, I feel out of touch!

1. no idea
I'm worried about Lloyd Doggett myself. How do we find out how our local candidates are doing?

2. Not good
From the Dallas Morning News last week: Sessions 50%, Frost 44%. I think Frost's campaign is starting to turn anemic. Plus, Rudy Giuliani has been cranking out ads for Sessions.

On the bright side, though, Arlene Wolgemuth is so despised even by Texas Republicans that the RNCC has stepped in to make anti-Chet Edwards campaign ads - Wolgemuth's campaign doesn't have the cash, it seems.

5. That poll was conducted BEFORE Session's streaking story broke
Perhaps the race has tightened up a bit.

3. Frost kicked Sessions' butt in last night's debate!
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 12:03 AM by CoolOnion
Sessions was on a roll last night at the League of Women Voter's debate, hosted by Mountain View College. His performance reminded me of the mayor's debates of years past, when the "real" candidates would be featured one night on public TV; the next night, all the nutcases would come out of the woodwork to spout off-topic theories about everything from taxes to UFOs--Pete Sessions was like one of those guys last night.

He kept going on about the flat tax and abolishing the IRS; Martin Frost reminded the audience that Pete Sessions is one of 9 or so who propose abolishing the IRS every year. Pete Sessions' retort--he said something like, "My name's on the bill, but it will never pass. Congressman Frost is just trying to scare you." What th--? So he's admitting he wastes his time on scary ideas that will never pass? How does that help North Texas?

Sessions' also stated that he was against the war in Kosovo because he didn't want our troops under U.N. command. He was really adamant on that point. Then came Martin's turn--"Pete, you're confused. They were under NATO control in Kosovo, not the U.N." It must have been an embarrassing night for the Sessions camp, though they'll never admit it. Martin's team was glowing--"Didn't Martin do well?" Well, of course, he did, but I'd love to see him in a real debate matching wits with the best of 'em instead of an airhead.

I see more Frost than Sessions signs, too. Frost has had a lot of support in North Dallas from people who like the work he's doing in Congress, but have never been able to vote for him until now.

The funniest thing in last night's debate was that every time Pete Sessions would get stuck for a response, he would tell the audience--live on local cable and CSPAN--to go to his website CostOfMartinFrost.Com. He said it time and time again. Thing is, that's not the name of his anti-Frost website! CostofMartinFrost.com was still available when he said it, and the Frost team purchased the domain name DURING THE DEBATE and used it to point out flaws in Pete's crazy tax plan! A brilliant manuever!

6. Sessions is an idiot
You can tell he's a luddite by his awkward portrayal where he is trying to act "techie" in the homeland security ad. They can surround him with the trappings of technology, but he's still an idiot when it comes to it.

10. why did Sessions get all the questions?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 08:40 PM by flaminbats
every cycle was the same..someone asked Sessions a question, Sessions used his time to attack Frost, Frost only had time to respond or answer the question, and then Sessions would get the final word.

It amazed me how well Frost did, considering how slanted the format was. If the debate rules had given each candidate equal time for the same number of questions, and equal time for responding..Frost would have kicked ass!

welcome to DU CoolOnion..:toast:

12. Oh, oh, I know the answer to this one...
I think they keep asking Sessions questions 'cause they can't figure out what he's saying. He talks in circles, wanders off-topic, and uses more words to say less stuff than anyone I've ever heard.

The questioners have never heard of any bills he's sponsored, they can't figure out what he's talking about, and they keep asking thinking they'll get a coherent answer next time!

Thanks for the toast, flaminbats!

13. good response..
I watched the debate with a close friend tonight, and he said that Sessions may have gotten the best questions but Frost gave the best answers.

The moderators still succeeded in pissing me off..just as much as Sessions!

8. I'm worried
Frost was my rep for years. Then I moved. Now Smokey Joe Barton "represents" me. Morris Meyer is going up against him but I don't think he has a prayer in my area. Anyhow, I work in Irving and the signs there are about even. If there is good turn-out then Frost will win. Apathy kills though. The rethuglican groups will be out in force. My parent are voting for Frost though.

9. Frost wins DMN Endorsement
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/editorials/stories/102004dnedifrost.4d916.html

Conventional wisdom would say the Dallas Morning News would go with the Republican, but they've been better lately about offering balance ('cause us Dems are writing lots of letters to the editor--they know we're out there!). After a half-hearted endorsement of Bush on Sunday--to keep the repugs from coming after them with their newly acquired assault weapons, no doubt--I was hoping they'd endorse Frost. Then, after seeing Pete Sessions go down in flames Sunday night, I knew they'd have to endorse Frost to save any shred of credibility.

Congrats, Martin--now go out there an WIN the 32nd!
